Agreed, the KLM sandwiches are not actually half bad, but then you have to probably be a northern European to enjoy that type of sandwich (particularly the type of bread).
But as a frequent flyer, you must love those cultural differentiations across airlines ;) When living in the US, I took quite a number of US-carrier flights from the West Coast to Japan and “loved” to wake up mid-flight from the slurping noises when the instant noodle soups were handed out at weird time in my (Dutch) eyes. |
Win free flights with Tuc
Heard on Belgian radio today: They are giving away free flights with Tuc - instead of giving away free Tuc on flights... For those who haven't had enough of Tuc and travel: http://www.proefvandewereld.be/ but only in French or Dutch - sorry, Flemish :-) |

Sorry if this has been asked (and answered before), but when and on what segments are TUC's served? This is going to be my first KLM flight in many many years...
I'm due out on a flight at 09:35 flight from CDG - AMS and then continuing at 13:20 AMS - HEL My return a few days later is leaving HEL for AMS at 14:20 and then AMS to CDG at 18:00... (both in Y) Will I have to stock up from the lounge before moving towards the dep gate? |

IMHO the provision of sandwiches seems to elude a recognizable pattern (perhaps with the exception of breakfast, but do not have many data poitns fly from those times), despite the claim that they are served around meal time. Most likely you will get a sandwhich only on your flight HEL-AMS, though I would not count on it. I had a couple of flights to AMS taking of between 6-7pm and ended up with TUC's. |

Cupart, congrats on your 1000th post. You should receive an extra pack of TUC's on each segment of your upcoming trip :D

So basically I'm "Tuc'ed" if I don't get filled up in the lounge by the time boarding commences... :D I did fly KLM a few years ago DUB-AMS-HEL and I remember we got a decent serving of food on the AMS-HEL segment and even a Mars bars after the meal :). Of course there was nothing on the DUB-AMS segment as AerLingus has a monopoly on this route and is a code sharing partner  |

You could have taken the AY direct flight, with a proper meal, and earned FB miles as well. My experience is that the Tuc/Choco Prince offer is available in Y on flights < 90 minutes, most KLC flights included. For longer flights, there have been long debates on this board about what contsitutes meal times for KLM because that's when the sandwiches are supposedly offered. Therefore, it must be the case that KL define it as follows: meal time is when they serve the sandwiches :) Conclusion for me at least is that there is no consistency. If asked I'd guess you'd get sandwiches (and potentially sandwiched also!) on the AMS-HEL flights. The 09:35 CDG-AMS and 18:00 AMS-CDG are on KL so you'd seem to have a reasonable chance of your first Tuc expeirence(s) in years. You know that there isn't much to stock up from the lounge? An apple perhaps. As much as I like it, I'd recommend not carrying the soup ;) |

Yes, I'm going for the segments but it was actually also cheaper through AMS than direct with AF from CDG. My big problems is that I can't stand TUC's. I get this strange 80's kind of flash back when just thinking of them so I'd rather not :D Is the apple for the purser maybe? She might give you an extra TUC if you behave :D |

Cupart, congrats on your 1000th post.
If you see the TUCs coming then, as quickly as you can, jump up and offer to do one of those "Questionairres!" I've seen folks being 'bribed' into filling them out by the FAs offering sandwiches! (Of course, being the seasoned campaigner, I once negotiated a sandwich, and extra beer and an extra pack of TUCs for my services!) -- Henry |
I guess I need to practice on my 'negotiation technique' as all I get from questionnaires is a free pen !
(memo to self ... next time the questionnaires are offered .. start the offer at an extra white wine ! ) :D |

If the crew is from the UK they might offer you a TUC pack and some chocolate cookie.

My couple recent segments 100% confirm the 9am rule, but the confusion seems to stem that in not that remote past sandwich time was not restricted to just breakfast. So, Cupart, your ams-hel and hel-ams segments should treat you with a sandwich, the for the other two you're 'Tuc-ed' !

Yikes! Both are inedible. Even without ever having studied the list of ingredients I would never cosider eating either.
Neither Tuc nor the Prinz is what I would consider a decent snack. The Tuc is just way too dry and there's always the danger of a dust cloud forming when you bite into it. The Prinz is just way too sweet to be actually tasty and the chocolate will melt way too fast. But they are still edible, especially for the infrequent traveller. I find myself often refusing the "Snack" and just going for a drink but calling them inedible is an exaggeration. Nevertheless, I'd expect better from a decent airline. |

According to her the current policy is - if a flight has just one service, then sandwiches are served only on flights departing before 9am, after 9am only TUCs or Princes (even if it's lunch or dinner time). If a flight has two services, the first one is always a sandwich with drinks and the second service is a second round of drinks.
