Google Maps - We're in Mexico!

My last few flights BOS-SAN Google Maps has show us in Mexico (just south of Phoenix) as we approached San Diego. Anyone ever noticed the map getting confused before? I know we get pretty close to the border but I don't think we've ever actually crossed into Mexico!

I see it every now and again. OAK especially it has a tendancy to show SJC on the map. Haven't figured out why that is though.

NYC-ORD/MDW flights often cross the Canadian border for a few minutes past western NY. I also remember on an AA flight, DFW-PHX, crossing the Mexican border once.

BOS-SAN seems to skirt the Mexico border. So i would believe that you may cross over the boarder while being vectored.

SAN typically uses the BARET4 arrival STAR for flights from the northeast, which begins at Needles, well to the north of the Mex border where Calif, Nev, and Ariz meet. Also would mean leaving SoCal Approach airspace if the plane ventured into Mexico.

ELP-SAN usually rides J2 over Interstate 8, so even that flight stays north of the border.

Might happen from time to time, but for whatever reason, US airlines don't fly over Mex like they do Canada on northern routes.

Yeah, I check flightaware and the flight plan shows BARET as a fix. Google maps is just screwy. Was the old system really that much worse?

It had a tendency to stick when I used it on VX. Had us parked over Ashland, Kentucky for nearly an hour, next update we were almost in St. Louis.

Also went off a few miles and pointing in the wrong direction. We landed 28L at SFO, but according to Google maps we were about to plunge into the Pacific while heading south.

No problems on the return ride though.
