question about same day confirm
I know you have to take a flight before yours on your day of departure, but when can you change it, is it 1201am that day or 24 hours prior to the flight?

Ok, thank you. Thats what I thought. That must make 12:00-12:15am (in each time zone) a busy time for SLC reservations

I wonder how difficult it would be for this to be set up as an online option. They already allow rebooking due to cancellations online. Would the technology be so different?
Jerseyguy, to clarify what you wrote: You don't just have to take a flight before yours, but you must take THE flight that is immediately before yours with the same routing, You can't take anything but that one alternative flight.

I've done a few stand-by flights with no problems whatsoever by showing up at the airport... I've even once missed a stand-by flight that I got a printed ticket for but decided to grab a bite to eat and by the time I reached the gate the flight already pushed back. (luckily they let me go back on the original flight I booked)
But I did pay once to confirm my seat on a stand-by flight. And I coulda swore it was before midnight from the day before. Last March on my JFK-PHX trip, I decided to go on standby from the 7pm flight to the 8am flight (there's only 2 direct flights per day) when I called the lady told me that the flight immediately before the one I booked is actually a 6pm connecting flight through Boston. However since there was 1 seat left on the 8am flight for $25 bux she let me get on it.
Whether she was in the right or wrong I didn't care. My original flight was $89, the morning flight was $129 so even with the $25 fee I was saving money. But I'm surprised they let me get on a flight that wasn't immediately before my scheduled flight. Although, do connecting flights really count? Or was she just pulling my leg?

I think you may be confused Russ, I was talking about the Same day confirm.
Which according to the website
Same Day Flight Change
Cities with Multiple Flights a Day
To confirm a seat:
You must contact JetBlue prior to your original flight
You must travel on an earlier or later same-day
You must travel between the same city pairs
A Same-Day Change Fee of $25 per person will be applied
====================
I was wrong about taking a flight earlier, I must have confused it with Standby, but I definately want confirmed because I want an aisle seat. And that will be near impossible if I go standby and all of the pax have been cleared.
Of course, it probably will be pretty difficult anyway being I'm traveling between EWR and MCO on xmas eve. Right now, I'm on flight 527 (650-947p) in seat 7D (36" Aisle seat), so I'm pretty happy with that. But I'd like to get to the house my family will be renting in Kissimmee at a decent hour, so if I can get on an earlier flight that would be great but I won't sacrafice my comfort that much to do it. I'll take an aisle seat in the back if I need to. But I'm overwieght and need the extra breathing room the aisle seat will provide.
Except for the time my flight is great, 36" inch aisle seat, from EWR (which is much closer to me than JFK), and its being paid for by a credit I got after the price on a flight came down.

my bad...
being overweight myself I preffer a window seat, usually in 3A or 3F(3D on E) because every time I sit in the eisle someone smacks me either in the face or back of the head with a carryon or a friendly flight attendand elbows me when I least expect it. a window seat is a bit safer for me.

I hear ya about being bumped by a flight attendant, I had an experience on Frontier, the FA decieded she didn't like the fact, I was a bit in the aisle and that she bumped into me, so she said "ok, lets get this over with" and then proceeded to bump into me several times in a fake playful type manner. The worst part about it, was that there were people that I knew, a few rows back in the aisle who noticed this and gave me a hard time. Luckily it was a short flight SLC-DEN. That and I noticed the difference in seat pitch (even though it was only 1"), I was not comfortable.
Anyway, I would consider the window, but the seats on Jetblue to me a bit uncomfortable, maybe my butt is too big to properly fit the way its supposed to, so I tend to get up frequently.

I can relay having the EXACT same exchange with a SLC phone rep. I dont think they all understand the difference between stand-by and same-day confirm.
I origninally called a rep at midnight PHX time who was ready and willing to put me on the day nonstop from PHX to JFK on the morning flight. I really only called to see if their was availability, because i was in HNL at the time and didn't want to make the change until I was affirmatively on the ground in PHX.
When I reach a rep that morning, she was only willing to put me on PHX-BOS-JFK, that was the immediate departure prior to my scheduled redeye evening flight. However, the logic escaped me that his is what was intended by the policy, because why would I want to take the flight prior in PHX when I would end up arriving at my destination later than originally schedule?(!)
Similar to your situation, I was at the airport anyway and the PHX groundcrew let me switch to the morning departure. It was the week of the storm fiasco, so perhaps they just liked me because I was a happy nondisgruntled passenger
