Stolen Camera and Delayed Flights

Just wanted the group to know about my recent experiences with this airline. AS many hours as I have flown in my life I have never experienced the crap that Jet Blue can hand out.
I took my daughter to Orlando for her spring break from school. We left out of Dulles International went through JFK and then onto Orlando.
I watched as our bags went through the security check and there was no problem at all. But when I arrived at Orlando I found that my digital camera along with a few items of my daughters were missing. All of our bags were checked rather then dealing with carry-ons.
When I made a report to Jet Blue I was told that they would not do anything about it. That I was basically out of luck...period.
When I told them if they condone stealing by their employees they just sort of laughed at me saying they know it happens but there was still nothing that could be done.
So I just want to let you good people know that I would stay clear of Jet-Blue like the plague. Their prices are not worth the eventual cost..
every single flight that either took us or brought us home were late. How can an airline that brags about customer service be so cold and uncaring???

Nice 1st post :(

Why would you be checking valuables? There's no proof this happened because of Jetblue. It could have been TSA.

ccdr14, welcome to FT!

Unfortunately in this forum if you say anything at all negative about JetBlue you get yelled at or otherwise ostracized. This has to do with JetBlue's meltdown this winter and the fan base's overall insecurity with respect to "their" airline. Why people are so attached here to an airline to the extent that they are mean to a new FTer, I have no idea.

In any event, thanks for your story. Yours is not unique and it is good to have this data available when we decide on airlines.

Welcome

Its NOT!! JB fault, are you sure it wasnt the security people who clipped the stuff, they dont work for JB. Im sure you cant even tell Us at which Airport it happened to boot.

It has nothing to do with JB its the same for ALL Carriers , simply put NEVER put anything of Value into ones Checked Bags!!!!! If it cant fit into ones Carry-on either leave it behind or pay for it to be shipped via UPS,FedEx etc with insuring it for its full value, OK it wont be cheap but alot better then having it Clipped.

Why Blame JB had you purchased it the very same day with a CC of yours , once you tell the CC that you placed the item in your checked bags, they TOO will close your file and tell you you are SOL!

sorry I didnt find even 1 thing to agree with you about, you traveled during Spring Brake when the Weather was a big factor this year , so now you expect JB to control the weather as well. I dont think theres any Carrier out there that someone like You will not find fault with, next time Drive or take a Bus or train

Excuse me? How in the world do you know that? It could be TSA's fault or it could be B6's fault. There are two likely culprits here. Why are you so quick to dismiss any liability on B6's part?

Why would you fly DFW-JFK-MCO anyway? Unless it was $100s less then everyone else Id never fly such a routing. Now if it was CO or UA etc no problem as its a way to get alot more miles, but JB doesnt run that way.

He flew out of IAD, not DFW.

It is unfortunate that one sticky-fingered person tarnishes everyone's reputation. My suggestion is to hit the speak-up button at www.jetblue.com. That will get more attention than with an airport counter person. I couldn't tell you if this is an isolated event or if it is an on-going problem at one of the stations in question. I hope that this gets resolved for you, ccdr14. Please keep us posted if anything develops and welcome to FT (FlyerTalk).

It's quite funny and ironic how some posters don't join and post unless something negative happens. It's also unfortunate that these posters go to great extremes NOT to post when something good happens.

To the OP, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. My views:

1. Since you've "flown so many hours in your life", you should know by now not to check valuables...especially a camera!

2. Not necessarily was the camera stolen by a jetBlue employee. It may well have been, however, that bag also went through the TSA's hands.

3. The flights were late due to problems not within jetBlue's control OR you would have been fairly compensated under the new Customer Bill Of Rights.

4. With an abundance of negative posts regarding jetBlue on this forum recently, I'm starting to wonder if it is all one poster - who is so angry inside at this great company. Just a thought.

That would be one conclusion.

The other would be that the abundance of negative posts regarding JetBlue reflect negative experiences with JetBlue. Just a thought. @:-)

Welcome to Flyertalk. :)

Sorry you lost your valuables. Dunno who stole them (or if they were even stolen).

Sadly, you broke the first rule of flying: Never, ever check any bag containing anything of real or significant value. No airline in the USA will pay for lost/stolen electronics (and a whole large list of other valuables, as well).

You have some comfort in learning that you aren't the first airline passenger to make this mistake. Flyertalk gets several posts like yours each month, almost always the first (and often, sadly, the last) post on this forum.

Tragically, in several years of reading and posting here, I've never seen anyone ask ahead of time if they should place valuables in their checked baggage. You see, that's where Flyertalk can add real value and substance to your travels - by asking advice of others before you do something like tempt baggage handlers and TSA screeners with your valuables. But nobody ever asks ahead of time. Instead, they check them and then when they predictably dissapear, they register at Flyertalk to post a scathing rant.

Again, welcome to Flyertalk. Sorry about your loss. :(

Unlikely. Some of the moderators are very, very good at finding duplicate FT handles, which violate the Terms of Service.

Please, everybody, let's stay on topic and help out the OP as much as we can. There's no need to get defensive or to pre-emptively rebut anticipated defensive behavior. All FTers know that stuff happens when you travel.

magiciansampras you really have to get over the St Valentines meltdown. JetBlue has said its sorry and they have been actively working on their infrastructure shortcomings. I really don't think that you can honestly dispute the fact that JetBlue has the best domestic product out there in the market. ccdr14, I am truely sorry for the lose of your digital camera. I am a pilot for Jetblue and my wife is a Scientist for Abbott Pharmaceutical. My wife travels for business on United extensively and unfortunately she had the exact same thing happen to her about 6 months ago. She checked her bag at ORD and when she got to her destination her digital camera was missing from her bag. She reported the missing camera to United but they wouldn't do anything about it. She also reported the incident to Abbott Corporate Security but because she was on personal travel using her United miles they were also powerless to do anything. I don't know who stole either camera but I suspect that it was the TSA as they have immediate access to all checked bags. Unfortunately, unless someone is caught in the act then its impossible to prove. As for your flight delays, this is a whole different issue. I just finished a 4 day day trip out of JFK and we were late on about 80% of our flights. I know that forum members like magiciansampras will try to give you their negative spin even though they know very little about flying and the operational issues that arise from major weather events. The delays that you experienced can be directly attributed to the Nor easter that started this past Sunday. All my flights, over 4 days, were up and down the east coast from BOS to FLL. On Monday night we were delayed going into IAD from FLL for 4 hours because of ATC. My best friend who flies for SWA was delayed into IAD from MDW for 5 hours. Washington Dulles has 3 long runways but because of the extreme winds only runway 30 was in use ALL day Monday. I flew our leg into IAD on Monday night and to say that we had a roller coaster ride into IAD would be an understatment. There were quite a few sick bags used. The flying conditions were very challenging and thankfully all companies kept it safe. On Tuesday, BOS was down to one runway for the majority of the day, runway 4R. There were also delays into all New York airports as TEB flooded forcing its closure and all the corporate jets that use it were diverted elsewhere. Once again I am sorry that you lost your camera and I hope that I was able to shed some light on the operational challenges that all airlines flying in the Northest Corridor just experienced.

Had this same problem yesterday getting back into LGA not on JB, seems from my connecting City all day Tues and yesterday flights to LGA and BOS were delayed 1 1/2 hrs +. Yet when I checked on flights into EWR that CO flies NS no problems with most of their flights. So it can vary even among airports in any given city.

better put is unless the culpit was caught with the goods or in the act it really could have been any number of people, a JB employee (w/o being sanctioned by JB to do so, TSA w/o DC telling them to do so, any 3rd party that might handle the bags anywhere along the route, in some cities where JB or any Carrier doesnt have a lot of flights they probably outsource some if not most of the work, although I dont think JB does that at JFK or IAD or MCO.

Hey Im no FF on JB Ive still havent flown on them, but the way the OP blasted them wasnt correct either.

why am I such a fan of JB , no I dont own their stock, simply for the same reason as I LOVE WN (Southwest) they keep fares cheap!! there is a big difference I can see myself flying JB but no way can I ever see myself flying on WN. Ive flown Air Tran on free tkts only and doubt except if there was major difference in tkt price that I would ever purchase a tkt on FL, at least they have assigned seats
