I told you way they were delayed, what other rational and reasonable discourse do you want. Ask an honest question and I will try to reply with a civil honest answer. I am not on this forum to defend JetBlue at every opportunity. The meltdown happened and as a crewmember I was embarassed and disgusted at our operation. We are in the early stages but positive changes are happening. By the way were you flying over the nor'easter. If only you had some appreciation of the challenges involved in operating 170,000 lbs of equipment safely in 40 MPH winds at 160 MPH on an approach to landing. The maximum crosswind component on most commercial airliners is 30-35 knots. There is little room for error.
I dont believe theres an Airline Forum on FT where you wont find the samething. Especially when it comes to the Carriers website and what one can do online, too numerous to nam ethem all and not enough time left in my lifetime to do so either. I would hope that before JB starts up again with opening up new cities to serve that they would get what they have going into shape, why add potential problems to the problems already at hand. A nasty summer of Hurricanes in the Southeast will set JB back again. |

With so many defensive reactions to any negative posts, I'm starting to wonder if it's all one apologist poster making excuses for this lousy company. I'll leave a discussion of motive to others.

You are preaching to the choir. I flew back on Monday morning on Continental Express, and the pilot was having a hard time keeping the wings straight during landing. We must have been only 500 feet above the ground, and the wings were still rocking like crazy. Whoever my pilot was earned his/her money that day when they put the plane right on the centerline. This past weekend was not the weekend to be flying.

Come on, folks. We're going backwards here to the days fallowing the days just after the Valetine's day meltdown. Before the meltdown, I have never seen so much discord in this forum like I do now. Too many of us are taking this a little to personally.
Let's get back to the original OP points. Problem: delayed flights. We can establish that these delays caused by the weather and ATC problems. The other problem is the lost camera. We've established that ccdr14 did check it at his/her own risk. However, it still is no excuse for either a sticky fingered or imcomptenant employee. Now as far as who the employee or the employer is, I don't know. Does anyone? Also, what more can we discuss? All the point have been covered. Have they not? |

Please, everybody, let's stay on topic and help out the OP as much as we can. There's no need to get defensive or to pre-emptively rebut anticipated defensive behavior. All FTers know that stuff happens when you travel.
 |
To the OP:
It is very unfortunate that your privacy and security was invaded and violated. Whom every the culprit is, they will more then likely get caugh in the long run. Unfortunatly every airline denies responsibility for and important electronic equipment that is placed in a checked bag. I'm not going to say it will happen in your case, but I have seen customers reimbursted for electronic equipment that turned up missing from a bag. There really is only 2 things that you can do. I believe you did one by contacting JetBlueand informing them of the situation and the lost articles and equipment. The response you recieved from us, however unfortunate, is going the be the response you pretty much get from any airline. I did it at my old airline when I worked airport operations. The second option is head to here TSA Claims It will have all the information you should need to report you missing items to the TSA. I don't know what their policy is or how they handle these types of incidents but that website should have all the information you would need to report it to the TSA. I really hope your articles turn up safe and sound and it is really unfortunate that this happened to you. I wish cameras where installed in the baggage makeup areas and CTX areas to help prevent these types of crimes but nobody seems to want to take the first step. |

Thanks Seat13c you hit the nail on the head. I really am beginning to dislike FT. There is way too much negativity.
There are people who enjoy creating and perpetuating negative threads, all the way from the ultra-trolls to the merely acerbic. Some people enjoy trying the moderator's patience by treading just inside the limits of tolerable behavior. That's where I need cooperation from everyone else to starve the negativity. It takes willpower to resist rebutting slurs against a company you like, but you need to trust FT readers to sort out truth from nonsense. Your fellow FT members are more than equal to this task. As the saying goes, never argue with a fool, because then people might not be able to tell you apart. I hope I have made myself clear. If not, I suppose I could close the thread, but I'd rather try using this as a learning experience for everyone. If you all try to get along, that makes it much easier for the moderator to see who needs special attention. |

Also, I'm gonna say the same thing that most of the other poster have stated and what most freqent flyers already know... do not pack expensive stuff that could be carry on in check luggage... not only it might get stolen, it is actually more likely to be broken. |
Thievin!
All airlines have language in their contract of carriage that most electronics, cash, jewelry and other valuables won't be reimbursed if stolen from checked luggage.
It's often difficult to determine if it was TSA or airline baggage handlers that took items. I'd recommend writing to JetBlue customer relations, and see if they throw you a bone. You can also read other messages on FT to see how people have handled similar problems Welcome to FlyerTalk! |
to the OP, was your bag even locked? If you wanted to pack such expensive items into your bags, why didn't you just invest $5 to $10 in a TSA Safe Luggage locks? That may of prevented this mess, hell, even a simple dirt cheap zip ties may have prevented it... think about it... someone want to steal something from a bag and see some bags with zip ties, some bags with locks, and a bunch of bags with no locks or zip ties... which bags do you think they would go after? Obviously the one with easy access... if they wanted to steal something they would of went for the easiest and fastest possible way which was an unsecured bag. Now if the bags were secured with something and TSA went through the bag and forget to lock it... it would have to be negligence on their part considering they do have means to resecure the bag after they inspected it...aka those TSA zip ties. Now if the locking device (other than the TSA safe locks) were still in place... than that just proves that no one when into your bags in the first place. If it was a TSA lock, and its still there, than you know either no one went through it OR someone at TSA stole it since they would be the only one going into your bags and resecuring it. Basically what I'm getting at, if (and its a big if) you didn't even try to secure your bags with any forms of locks... its also partially your fault for your items to get stolen... REGARDLESS of what airline you fly.
I'm just gonna make the assumption here that your bags were secured because your a smart freqent travler that know to secure a bag with expensive stuff in it with some form of locking device and am truly sorry to hear about your loss. |

I'd also suggest filing a police report if you are the victim of a crime. No telling if the police on either end of the flight might be receiving similar reports.

Just to share a little experience with those of you that try not to hold JB accountable for things. I had an entire travel toiletry bag stolen out of my suitcase when flying with Jetblue. Checked my bag at the counter, picked it up at the other end with baggage claim. Yes, I know the TSA checks the bags, and JB baggage handlers deal with it as well. That's not for me to try to figure out, the bag is in JB possession and that's all that matters.
I did not realize the bag was missing from my suitcase until the next day when I was unpacking (didn't get home until 3AM) Called the airport baggage claim and they tried to blow me off. Finally got the number of the central baggage office in SLC and had to file a claim. In the end they did reimbursement for all the items taken within the toiletry bag and I was satisfied. I would suggest the OP contact that office and at least get a claim in there. For everyone to defend JB, and not at least hold them accountable is really just wrong. Regardless of who "took" the items from the bag, when you check your luggage at a specific airline, it is now their responsibility. And trust me, I happen to like JB however as in every walk of life there deceitful people but how the corporations that employ them handle the situation speaks volumes. I will continue to fly JB when it meets my travel needs. |
