IAD Operations & Service

I saw on Wikipedia.org that JetBlue is taking over some of the gates previously used by Independance Air and that service to Orlando and Tampa are in the works. Does anyone know the status of this project at IAD?

Not sure, but heard some rumors.

On another note, Wikipedia is probably the WORST source for anything.

I would have to agree with the fact that Wickipedia's facts, at times, are a little off. Thus, prompting the new thread. However, I haven't heard any other rumors about those unused gates at IAD. It also seems a little odd to have ample service to MCO from the northeast and none of those flights are coming from IAD. I was seeing if there was any that knew anything about this.

AirTran started flying IAD-MCO nonstop a few months ago, so B6 would have some competition in a market that's pretty low-cost to begin with. I don't know if it's some sort of "gentleman's agreement" between two LCCs or just market factors, but I can't think of a single city pair where AirTran and JetBlue compete nonstop, head-to-head. The two carriers tend to complement each other's routes very well, i.e. from RIC B6 goes north to JFK and BOS while FL goes south to MCO and ATL (with connections to everywhere in Florida).

The old Indepence Air terminal (Terminal A) is now occupied by United Express.

If I'm not mistaken, B6 did indeed have plans to take DH's old gates in the B area (used for Airbus ops)...whether this actually happened, I don't know.
