JetBlue Base Points
Hi all,
Could someone please explain to me exactly how JetBlue's base points are calculated? The website describes it as being "3 points for every dollar spent at JetBlue.com" but this seems to be an oversimplification. I've tracked my spending on each of my 12 flights this year, and it actually seems that my base point earnings are more like 2.8 times the dollars spent (or 3.22 times the pre-tax dollars spent). Does anyone know what is going on or how the exact calculation works?
I'm bummed since I believe I missed out on Mosaic for the year by 15 points.. when I calculated the points I'd need I was using exactly 3x.

Thank you!
PS. On a related note, has anyone been in a similar situation and had any luck pleading their case to JetBlue? 15 points is the equivalent of $5 spent with the airline. Is there an easy way to earn 15 base points without having to take an entire flight?

Re the missing points I suggest calling and begging.
As for how they are calculated, it should be 3x the base fare, before any taxes or fees are applied. On a typical domestic US flight taxes & fees are 10-20% of the total price (though it can vary based on fare, obviously).

I would call or SM and try to get any points you think might be missing. You can also ask if they will give you 15 courtesy points. I don't know if they will give you courtesy base points but other airlines sometimes give courtesy points to meet redemption thresholds.
I don't always link to TPG but you may be able to buy the rest of the way to mosaic status.
I didn't think bought points counted towards mosaic, but I've never bought points before, so I don't know.

A good way to see the actual base fare is to search for your flights on the ITA Matrix, where it will break down your fare into base fare and then all the other fees and taxes.
