Remove seat assignment
If I have a seat assignment on a Jetblue flight, is there a way to remove my seat assignment, so I'm confirmed on the flight but have no seat assignment?
The reason why I'd want to do this: I have a travel agency who bought a ticket for me and auto-assigned me a seat. I'd rather have no seat assignment and take my chances at the airport (who knows, maybe I'll get put in EMS; and in any case it won't be worse than the seat assignment I have no).
Is it possible to get there from here? Or is the only way to end up with no seat assignment to buy a ticket from jetblue.com and never select a seat in the first place?

I can't answer your question about whether it can be done, but unless you have an absolutely terrible seat now, this seems foolish. I am 99% sure you are not going to get an EMS seat, but I am 99% sure you are going to get a middle seat probably in the back of the cabin.

You can give them a call and they will remove it for you. I'd wait to check in early, and instead check in at the airport. If economy is fully booked, you'll be given EMS, which happens nearly every flight.

Still very risky. OP I just wouldn't complain if you do indeed not get an EMS seat, as your hands are with the airline/agent.

I've been assigned to EMS 3 times at the gate. One was on a transcon redeye, and it was the middle seat of row 1, which wasn't great, but the added legroom was nice. (although, after flying mint on the outbound, it was certainly a big downgrade!)

It depends on the flight and the route. If the flight isn't full, I wouldn't risk it. But, if Y is sold out, especially on a 320/1, theres a real good chance OP will get an EMS. Plus, he said nothing can be worse than his seat assignment now, so there really is no risk involved.
