jetblue has announced over and over again that their focus for the time being is adding business markets from Boston and leisure markets from JFK which will be largely Caribbean/Latin America cities. They are going after routes they can make money on. There are plenty of carriers flying to small town middle USA. Maybe in the distant future they can focus on that--once the legacies carriers finish their merging and reduce capacity to the point where an alternative carrier would be able to add routes and make money.
Large cities like Chicago already have tons of capacity on multiple airlines from the NY area. Smaller cities in the center part of the USA will simply not make money from the get go.
It makes far more sense for B6 to add routes that will make money so that there will be future for them as a carrier growing throughout the Americas.
