It is an increase in service, not completely new service; there have previously been 2-3x LAS-LGB daily on the schedule and I've flown it a few times.
They're doing this to compete with Allegiant which is starting up the route to babysit their LGB slots until they are actually ready to start the Hawaii service they talked about but have sine postponed.
