Golf Bag Question

The Jet Blue golf bag information states that you can check 1 golf bag but states that the clubs must be packed in a hard sided container. Does that mean they will not accept clubs that are packed in a regular padded soft golf travel bag? I have brought my clubs on numerous trips and always used the soft bag that I own. I would imgagine their definition refers to that the bag be padded and not one of the hard shell versions. Can anyone validate?

Oversized?

Has anyone ever been charged an overage fee? Given the dimensions of even the smallest travel bags, it will be over the dimensions considered oversized

I always make sure mine is less than 50 pounds and have never paid extra on any airline.

I travel frequently with my golf clubs and I've never been charged a fee. I also use a soft padded travel bag.

They can be held responsible for damaged contents as long as you use a hard sided case but the drawback is that hard sided cases kind of suck because they're bulky, heavier... you can't put them in the trunk of many cars etc. They will not take responsibility for damage to anything inside of a soft sided case.

Keep it under 50lbs and you will always be fine with a soft sided travel bag though. Throw one of those extension poles in there for vertical support (protects your driver from a direct impact if the bag lands on it's head) and you're pretty safe. I've never had an issue traveling this way.
