JFK-LAX service increasing as of 1 July 2010

Going from 2x to 4x daily "due to customer demand." With no more A320s arriving in the fleet it will be interesting to see who loses service to make this happen.

I don't think anyone will lose much service as Jetblue's utilization is down from recent years. It went from 12.8h in 2007 to 11.5h in 2009. At the JPMorgan Aviation, Transportation & Defense Conference, Barger said they were going to grow by dialing that rate up a bit.

I didn't see it coming today. It nice to see B6 has been increasing more passengers capacity on this route LAX-JFK. Hoping the routes will have enough more profitable. What about BOS-LAX isn't have been added more frequency yet. I am not aware of LAX will continued more growth in the future. Maybe B6 will have to be considered to added more specific new routes from LAX.

The planes are coming from the seasonal Florida pulldowns for the summer. What will be interesting is if these new flights stick into fall and winter.

Interesting migration of the service on the transcons. JFK-OAK is down to 2x daily, and the newer LAX route bumping up to 4x.

The schedule to OAK is horrible now, BTW -- the first flight of the day doesn't arrive until almost 9pm.

There are 4 new E190's scheduled to come online later this year, IIRC. Perhaps one or two of them will replace an exist A320 on a route or be sent to Florida went the seasonal flights pick back up next fall.

NYC-LAX has always had a bigger draw than NYC-OAK. Don't forget, you also have NYC-SFO service now, also.

Yeah, that's nothing new. For a long time there was 4x/OAK in addition to the 2x/SFO service.

Has there been a drop off in the numbers in going NYC-SFO/OAK or is the NY/LA market pulling better revenue? (I'm guessing the the latter regardless of whether it is the former or latter.)

Must be the latter. The planes go where the money is...

Oakland used to be a much busier airport. Now, aside from Southwest it is very dead. AA/CO gone completely and DL/UA down to a skeleton schedule. B6 also moved service from OAK to SFO. There is a lot more NYC service from SFO with DL/VX/B6 all adding flights in recent years and UA/AA already having lots of flights in the market, plus CO serving EWR. OAK used to get traffic because fares out of SFO were high. Now there is such a choice of carriers out of SFO, it makes little sense for somebody on the West side of the bay to trek over to OAK to catch a flight. Used to do it myself all the time but haven't had the need since B6 and VX ramped up their SFO service.

Has JFK-MJB always been 2X daily or was that added as well for the summer?

LGB is the loser, at least on transcon service. jetBlue is cutting two transcons there, one to BOS and one to JFK, at the same time as these new flights at LAX come in.

Presumably they'll keep the slots and use them for west coast service.

Is it just me or does it seem like B6 is setting up a simular situation at LGB/LAX as DAL has at LGA/JFK. One airport handles regional (per se) traffic while the other handles the long haul traffic?
