What do you have in mind?

Oshiruko

Or limited edition oshiruko kitkat? (Anko between the wafers, mochi speckles in the chocolate covering)

I picked up yuzu kitkat in a bargain bin - not good

Alas, I was short of cash and didn't try the zunda kitkat hawked in Sendai
Zunda is made with sugar and edamame
I like zunda much more than oshiruko.

Hi, my name is Mike and I am a chocoholic.

Best of both worlds at a Le Chocolat de H in Roppongi Hills. Seriously good choco made by a Japanese expert craftsman.

The Fujiya cake company may or may not have emerged from that. For all I care, the executives there can drown in a vat of rotten cream.

But the store at the foot of Kagurazaka is the only place in Japan that makes Peko-chan-yaki and they're good people with high standards. My guess is that they hardly do any trade in Fujiya cakes. It's all about the Peko-chan-yaki.

When the Fujiya scandal broke, pretty much the whole neighbourhood told the folks making Peko-chan-yaki that we wanted them to carry on with the business regardless of whatever happened to Fujiya.

Ooh, cream cheese!

I found custard filled tai-yaki (along with the usual anko ones) at a popular tai-yaki shop in Sendai. I bought a few to bring back to Tokyo, but only the anko filled ones made it Oh they were goood.

I was told that the original taiyaki came from Azabu Juban, if that's the case, then the original shop is probably Naniwaya, 1-8-14 Azabu-juban, Minato-ku, Tokyo (東京都港麻布十番1-8-14)

My favorites are:

Kakigoori (shave ice), especially mizore (plain sugar syrup or diluted honey)

Matcha (green tea) or kurogoma (black sesame) ice cream

Sakura mochi in the spring

Yatsuhashi, especially the unbaked variety

I highly recommend Pierre Herme. There are a few locations including one in Isetan Shinjuku. I prefer his macarons over Sadaharu's, Hevin's. Also try Toshi Yoroizuka and Hidemi Sugino for pastries.

Edit: Speaking of Kit Kats, while looking for green tea Kit Kat (which I never found) I came across yuzu and red bean but also Muscat of Alexandria. I thought that was weird they'd name it after a specific grape. As if that wasn't odd enough, while waiting at Narita I found McFlurry Caramel Macchiato Kit Kat. That's right.

HiChews

I know this is just a lowly convenience store product, but Morinaga Hi-Chews never disappoint as gifts. Kind of like soft Starburst candies. Fabulous ^
