Hi all,

I've searched and read all the threads on stopping over in NRT...
Arriving at 330pm on JAL, departs at 550pm at T2. Would I have enough time to clear C&I, grab a shower, eat some fantastic tonkutsu ramen ( if any ) and get back in to board?

This might be a bit late.. hope there's some FTers out there awake at this hour...

Not sure about the timing, but for real tonkutsu ramen you gotta head to Kyushu, and you definitely don't have time for that

Well I like Manen Manen ( sp?) in Osaka the best, but I'll be happy to get anything close to Janganran (sp?) ramen in Tokyo.

If you searched and read all the threads, you know that it can take a while to clear immigration and customs, then on your return you have to clear security and exit immigration, all of this can easily take off 1.5+ hrs. I don't think there's much you can really accomplish by going airside, as it takes about 1 hour just to get to Tokyo from NRT. Even going to Narita is not worth the rush.

Staying airside, there is a shower and day room facility that you can use.

I wouldn't count on it.

1) You might not. I almost invariably use T1, so take what I say loosely. Best bet is to rush off the plane and try to get through passport control as quickly as possible. If you see massive queues here, the signs aren't very good. If you breeze past, already things are looking more promising.

Getting back in could also prove a more lengthy process than you may have anticipated. It's likely you'll need at least 45 minutes to get through the departure security cordon and to your gate (in my experience, boarding commences about 30-25 minutes before departure).

Which brings us to the question as to whether you'll have time enough to eat.
Probably no.

However, you may have time to get a take away.

If a restaurant is making a bespoke bento box for you, count on 10 minutes for your order to be prepared.

In T1 there's a shop with ready made sushi which would be much quicker for you - the equivalent in T2 may be this one: http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guid..._08_shiki.html

Oshizushi - usually with mackeral - is usually recommended to travellers. The rice and fish is laden with more vinegar than 'normal' modern sushi and has been pressed in a box, this means it keeps longer. The other kinds of sushi should be eaten within a few hours.

Rather than eat in a rush, I'm suggesting you take your bento box on the plane with you and enjoy it there.

2) As I'm a T1 user, I can only give you the info on the narita airport website.

There are a few places in T2 (up above the escalator) to eat ramen. I wouldn't call it fantastic and would only go if I was there anyway.

T2 was often a zoo to get through C&I and back through security. Your arrival/departure times looks like it's smack in the middle of "rush hour".

However, my experience was before the whole Star Alliance reorganization in T1 so I don't know how it's been since.

Not enough time, IMO. Stay airside.
