NRT Security Question

I will be transiting through NRT next month on the way to HKG.
What are the rules for carrying liquids onto airplanes in carryon bags?
If I buy a bottle of liquor at a duty free shop in the US, will I have a problem carrying it onto the NRT-HKG flight?

I do not think you will have any problems. I think the liquid restrictions are for US and UK bound flights.

A very similar question in the NW forum:

I was surprised on Monday to find that security had no problem with me bringing a large opened bottle of green tea through for my NRT-LHR flight. I'd expected to have to ditch it.

(Edit to add that I flew on ANA)

If you are flying United Airlines, or any US carrier, irrespective of destination, then there will be a secondary check at the gate. I had liquids confiscated from me when boarding a UA flight to TPE two weeks ago.

At NRT?

If I recall there have been some restrictions lifted, ie liquids purchased in the secure area (after security) are allowed.

Yes, this was at NRT. Two security agents searched my carry-on and confiscated my drinks. I said I'm flying to TPE, not the US but they said it didn't matter - US carrier.

Same thing also happened to me again at HKG when I flew UA to SGN. Was well pissed off.
