connecting time in NRT

I have a coming flight through NRT. I would like to go out to meet a friend and then come back to catch my connecting flight. I have 60 minutes between my connecting flights. Is it possible go through passport control and customs, and then come back (through security check, and passport control again)? Both my flights are on Northwest.

You may want to take a look at this thread for discussions of how long it has taken people to get through immigration recently. I personally would not try doing this with only 60 minutes.

The best time to try this would be around August 13-16 !

Unless you're extraordinarily lucky or daring, I'd say that's pretty much impossible in 60 minutes, as it's fairly common for the queue to take that long in one direction. If you really want to do this, maybe your friend could get a fully refundable ticket and come airside to join you?
