NRT Term 1 Immigration Wait

From the department of anecdotal observations, here are two data points for wait times for NRT Terminal 1 immigration arrivals, not counting customs:

September, 2003:
--Japanese passports or reentry permit: 0-1 minutes
--others: 51 minutes

October, 2003:
--Japanese passports, etc.: 0 minutes
--others: 53 minutes

Bring a (long) book. The Immigration people seem to have removed the suggestion box, too.

What time did you arrive? About the same time the U.S. airline flights arrive for/from the U.S.? I haven't entered Japan in a long time but in December 1999 and Feb. 2001, it took me <10 minutes at T2 (3 p.m. arrival) and T1 (4pm arrival) respectively.

never had issues going in nrt with ba (morning landing, always empty)
going with lh is mostly a gamble, if you are unlucky, there are 2 jumbos from thailand etc. in front of you and then prepare for a two hour wait.

I've gone through Terminal 1 arrivals three times in the past year, always in the afternoon. The wait has been 30-45 minutes each time.

Waiting time should be shorter (don't know how long though) at both Terminal 1 & 2 since they increased the number of immigration officers handling non-Japanese passport holders recently.

Passing recently through T1 immigration, my wait was 0-1 minute both incoming and outgoing, for non-Japan passport holder.

Entered around 13:30 on Thursday 16 Jan. (long transit). There's estimate waiting time placards on the queue a la mouseworld though this may be an overestimate. 15 minutes though a KE flight was paidly filling up the line in front and behind.

The non-Japanese passport line at NRT's T1 was very long today at around 3 p.m. The designated queue area could not hold all of the people waiting. They spilled over to the Japanese passport holder area.
