ATMs in some Family Marts won't accept my Japanese cash card (MUFJ bank).
Sure, my ability to predict whether I'll be able to withdraw cash at a Family Mart is a first world problem par excellence but it's also a symptom of something bigger; While Japan often adopts foreign things and improves on them (convenience stores, toilet seats, KitKats) there are also instances where it imitates the form while missing the point.

Trying to add Suica or Pasmo transit to apple wallet. After I try to add 1000yen, With both I get error: can not add payment. So I went to apple store in Tokyo today. Two people tried to help. Added Suica and Pasmo app, they set up my account in Japanese (English translation of app not available). After setup, in the app we tried to add funds , said DONE but then it showed rejection of funds approval. They checked internet and said there was known issue of not being able to add funds with non-Japanese bank card. They said US phone have a different chip than Japanese phones.
is that your experience???
I find it hard to believe that apple would enable Suica and Pasmo transit cards in their wallet 1) when it doesnt work for USA
users and 2) it only works with Japanese credit cards and 3) you need to set up in app which is not available in English.
any ideas how I can enable either Suica or Pasmo in apple wallet??

Also, I think for my first time I had a physical card with some money on it, and transferred it to the app / wallet. Do you have a physical card you can try?
