Kishida is at a G7 meeting this week. I wonder if he will be pressed on his "open similar to other G7 nations in June" statement. I'm guessing not.

I've heard that Europe submitted a complaint about visa reciprocity in 2020 after Japan closed their borders and Japan is coming up on their 2-year mark where they have to provide a response or be removed from Europe's visa waiver program. Not sure how true or what the details are on it.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard about that. Of course I think during COVID there were allowances, but those are since moot. The blatant xenophobic statements about Japan being afraid of tourists who didn't sanitize their hands, I do think warrants at least an apology.

This article discusses it a bit, but no discussion about the 2-year requirement to respond before they lose the EU visa waiver privilege.
