IMHO some of the better places for blossoms in Kyoto are Maruyama Park and the back garden walkway at Nijo Castle. Both will have crowds but that is true everywhere in the old capital.

Tokyo
We’re arriving NRT late on the 8th April, but it seems we still have a shot at Sakura in the Tokyo area.
The cherries at our favourite park, Showa Kinen Koen, have just come into full bloom. Hopefully I’ll be able to rouse everyone early enough to go on the 9th April.

The park’s own status report for the main patch of Yoshino cherry trees changed from “7 minutes bloom” to “full bloom” on the 5th April. So, despite a few extremely warm days, we’re hoping it will last until the 9th.
The flip side is that the short heat wave may have encouraged a few more tulips to open over the weekend. This is another highlight of the park

That makes sense.
I do rather enjoy the literal translations, poetic in their own way. I get the gist and see it as part of the pomp and pageantry surrounding the Sakura season. It lasts so little (particularly so by the time I typically arrive) that the anticipatory period is a valued part of it.

Had a wonderful time on perhaps the best possible day for Sakura at Showa Kinen Koen. Beautiful day with a stiff breeze ensured lots of falling petals. Gorgeous. Doubt much will survive after tomorrow’s rain.
Here are two photos showing the view from our hanami spot and another of LapChild enjoying the quickly expanding Sakurajutan (Sakura carpet).
