Hello Kitty Shinkansen

Alright, nobody posted this.

JR West has refitted 500 Series Shinkansen train as Hello Kitty Shinkansen, making one round trip per day between Hakata and Shin-Osaka.

As a self proclaimed train geek…, NO THANK YOU! I can hurl!

It replaced the Evangelion Shinkansen, right? So overall there's still the same number of anime/kawaii/whatever Shinkansen and not an increase, so there's that. Regardless, there's already that Anpanman train in Shikoku, occasional Rilakkuma trains on the Yamanote or Keikyu Main Line, etc. I'm not a Hello Kitty fan by any means but I wouldn't actively avoid this train.

Oh my gosh, soooo much PINK! I don't ordinarily care about what the outside of the train looks like but the inside should be comfortable. I agree with AA. That much pink could cause nausea.

Are those two MASSIVE cinema screens in the first car? That would make loads of kids happy. Lack of unhappy kids on a train and everybody should be content.

I’ll take it over the unbelievably yellow Rilakumma train with the violently yellow interior paper “cladding” on the Keikyu line (Shinagawa to Misaki - not the shortest trip). That must be a terrible commuting experience for anyone with a hangover.

The JR Shikoku Anpanman trains were a bit disturbing for me and I've been on the Rilakumma train with jet lag. I sent photos to friends asking which Anpanman character was the most ominous or high. They're even on the interior ceiling staring down at you.

I have to give the Hello Kitty version a few points for including gachapon machines. Perhaps the other cars have less interior theming?

Thumbs up Confession

I love Hello Kitty. I do not care if you think that somehow emasculates my manliness. :-:
What is binding my credit card / hotel / rental car affiliation cards wallet is Hello Kitty adhesive tape.
I shall refrain from mentioning what other Hello Kitty artifacts I possess.
Many kudos to J.R. :^

When are we going to see Pokemon? If and when that happens, I am sure my kids will make sure we go out of our way to make that ride (until they outgrow it, I guess)!

Some Keio & Toei Shinjuku line cars will be getting a Sanrio wrap
Prepare Yourselves For the Full Hello Kitty Train Experience | Spoon & Tamago

The design features some of the other Sanrio characters, too.
