Minimum connection time in Narita
I will be arriving at Narita at 8:00 with SQ (terminal 1) and departing for Hong Kong at 10:50 with CX (terminal 2). These are separate tickets. Will 2:50hrs be sufficient to clear security, gather bags travel to terminal 2 for my next flight? Thanks.

Did you call SQ and asked if SQ at SIN will through check your luggage to your CX flight at NRT when flights are on two separate tickets?
If baggage can be through checked then you will go through the transit area at NRT, will not have to go through passport control and customs at NRT.

I mentioned about asking because SQ does have interline agreement with CX. It used to be that if flights were on one ticket or not did not make difference as long as minimum connection time was met and airlines had interline agreement. However, these days some airlines are starting to add condition such that flights have to be on one ticket, AA is one of them.

Even if SQ cannot check the bags all the way through, 2:50 is ample time to pick up your bags, go through customs/immigration, change terminals, and check in. Nonetheless, it would sure make your life easier if they could.

If you're transferring to another international flight, you don't have to go through immigration/customs, just a security check.
There's a point at which passengers who are staying in Japan and passengers who are going directly to another country split off. It's clearly marked.
