My double itinerary from NRT-ICN, transferring question
First post, I had a question i thought the pro's might have some input on
I've never made a transfer like this. I've got a work itinerary from DEL-NRT, landing at 9am. I'll be in Japan for 4 days. I want to make a personal trip to ICN for 2 nights. If I plan to leave the same day as arriving in NRT, say 3-4 hours after I land, how would it work?
I expect I would have to go through customs, collect my bag, then transfer to international departures, check in, get a departure passport stamp, and make my ICN plane.
Just as a sanity check, I can't expect the airlines to transfer my bags from NRT to ICN because this is a separate itinerary from my DEL-NRT connection, right?

It is dependent on airlines you are flying, not specific to NRT. For example, American Airlines has announced that staring October 1 unless it is AA or OneWorld carriers AA will not through check baggage if an itinerary is on two separate tickets.
Also airlines have interline agreement. If an airline you are flying on DEL-NRT and an airline you are flying on NRT-ICN do not have an interline agreement then an airline on DEL-NRT will not through check your baggage no matter what.
You need to call an airline you are flying on DEL-NRT to find out specific about your situation.

AlwaysAisle: thanks for the thorough answer. There may be hope after all to save me some hassle!
DEL-NRT: Air India (star alliance), arrives NRT 9AM
NRT-ICN: Asiana Air (star alliance), depart NRT 1:30PM
I will call and inquire about interline agreements.
