Is it worth waiting to Duty Free at Narita to try and find some Yamazaki or Hakushu aged single malt?

Or there somewhere in Tokyo that isn't extortionate that I can try?

Thanks in advance

Have done, can't see any of the Japanese singles malts on the Narita duty free site and only have a 1L allowance on the way home so was curious if anyone had been through more recently.

Incidentally I've seen the Yamazaki 2015 Limited Edition in DQ in Shinjuku for ¥10k in case anyone is looking for it.

I think that unless you can find something in town, the prices at duty free are staggeringly high. The website is not reflective of what they actually have in my experience.

I found Hibiki 30 in Kyoto at a liquor store, not at an airport. It was 248,000

That 10k for the Yamazaki 2015 LE is a steal. That's what I would snap up if I were you. It sells for quite a bit more on the secondary market and as noted by many in the thread (including me earlier this year and mkjr in the post above), the prices at Duty Free are ridiculously high. You can find the same bottles stateside for similar prices without the hassle of having to carry in your checked bag over the Pacific.

The Yamazaki 2015 LE on the other hand isn't making an appearance in the US (at least I haven't seen it anywhere or heard any reports of it making an appearance in the US).

There are no more bargains in Japan's duty free airport shops. Every Suntory product is a travel exclusive that sells for twice the price, but has the same booze, as the regular edition, just in a prettier bottle.

Your best bet these days in Tokyo are to search the Bic Cameras, Don Qxiotes, and Department stores for anything good and reasonably priced.

You may even get it duty free.

Kyoto or Osaka store recommendations?

Will be in Kansai area in early April, any recommendations on where to buy? Not necessarily Japanese whiskies as I am not really familiar with them (but want to try) as I prefer Islay single malts.

I found a supermarket by the Kanayama railway station in April selling Ardbeg 10 for about CAN$40, a bargain compared to the $94 charged here in Vancouver.

Alas, given the devaluation of the CAN$ over the last year there is little to no savings at the duty free stores worldwide, seems whiskey prices are getting jacked up over the last few years worldwide. Used to get Ardbeg 10 for US$40 in Phoenix DFS a few years ago then it got raised to $68 the next year.

I seriously doubt that Costco will ever get Hibiki 12 and 17 in stock again. Harmony is all we're going to see from here on out.

I'll be passing through Narita next week and would like to pick up some Japanese whisky -- and since I'm not checking a bag, it has to be something I can buy at the airport or in-flight sales.

I'm flying out on JAL, and apparently their only Japanese whisky is Hakushu 12. Is their asking price of Y8,300 the best I'm going to get, or is there anything better available at NRT? (Doesn't have to be Suntory.)

I saw Harmony at a couple of Washington Costcos, for an eye-watering $75.
