MLIT to allow gate-to-gate electronics use

http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASG3X74N5G3XUTIL064.html

This comes after similar regulation changes from the US FAA and EU EASA. MLIT expects to revise the existing rules by summer, with major carriers conforming to those new rules shortly thereafter.

I have one word for this: finally!

I'm impressed... coming in on KE last night I was joking that MLIT would probably wait a few years, then only make the change on an April 1 to conform with a new fiscal year.

This is so typical Japanese government.

1. Don't take any initiative on your own.

2. Copy what everyone is else is doing while maintaining the charade that you're actually conducting some kind of independent evaluation.

3. Tweak a few irrelevant details to maintain the charade.

4. Do it all at a snail's pace.

Whereas the TSA follows 3 and 4 but takes the initiative to come up with all kinds of wacky new rules completely inconsistent with the rest of the world!

I'll take J-govt conservativism, thank you very much...

Not sure, but I don't think the TSA has anything to do with on-board electronics use.
