Golden Week holidays are ALWAYS the days of April 29th and May 3rd, 4th, and 5th. In addition, by law, if a holiday falls on a Sunday, then the following day is always a holiday, which is why the 6th is also a holiday this year.

Yeah but if don't live here and look at the calendar for this year then it might not be clear because they are looking for a calendar week of holidays.

If May 3 is a Monday then it's a different ball game.

I don't live 'there' but I have a Japanese calendar in my office (and I don't work for a Japanese organisation). It often confuses colleagues.

Yes, there is an expedited service. Costs more but only takes a day or two. That's what I generally use. If you're Canadian, I'd think about applying for an ABTC.... eliminates the need for visas in almost every Asian country

The catch about "Golden Week" is that the days in the middle (April 30 to May 2) are not evenly treated as holidays: some shops and offices shut down, but the government, banks, etc. stay open. For many people it will end up being two long weekends back-to-back with a short and relatively uneventful work week in the middle.

The best case scenario is when April 29 falls on a Friday -- then the next week only has Monday and Friday as work days, with three holidays in the middle. Thus by taking two days off you get a total of ten holidays in a row.
