NRT connection (yes, another thread)
Yes, I've read all the other posts and I still don't get it. Dumb it down for me.
Arriving from DFW on AA, connecting to BKK on JL.
It's my understanding I don't go through immigration or customs, but I do go through a security checkpoint. Where is this checkpoint? Are there signs? I know I stay in Terminal 2 and this should be easy, but for some reason it's not.

I've flown into NRT a half dozen times, but have always terminated there, so I just can't figure this connection thing out. I'm racking my brain trying to remember what direction and where all the connecting people on my flights disappeared to and just can't.

Before you get to immigration there's a "turn-off" for transit passengers. There's usually a crowd that takes the turn-off, so you're not likely to miss it. If you find yourself at an immigration window, you've gone too far.

So it's after the train, right?
And I can turn around and head the other direction if I hit immigration? I'm afraid I'd get stopped doing that.
If worst comes to worst, I guess I can go through immigration and customs and head back in.

There's actually a number of these places between the further airline gates and immigration, only typically most of them are closed. So if you see a really busy transfer point and are a reasonable distance from immigration, keep walking, there is very possibly another.
And yes, you can turn around instead of heading through immigration.

If you do manage to walk all the way to the immigration counters without noticing a way to connect, nobody is going to require you to go through immigration. Turn around or ask someone to direct you to international transfers/connections.

From page 1 of the PDF:
Welcome to Japan! Just follow the signs that say "International Connecting Flights."
