NRT moving between terminals airside question

I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience moving between the two terminals airside at NRT.

Do you need a boarding pass for an airline in either terminal to move between them?

For example, someone from Terminal 1 wants to go to Terminal 2 to meet a friend there airside (or vice versa)?

IME, a guy with a clipboard asked me for my flight number, but didn't look at my boarding pass. It's been a while since I've done this, so it might be different now.

T1/T2 bus

It's been almost 2 years ago, but I think it was pretty informal. The buses are outside of security, travel public roads between T1 and T2, take about 10-15 minutes, are crowded, and have instructions in English. I don't remember anyone checking anything, you are on your own.

I'm speaking about the airside connection, not the buses that connect the terminals landside.

This discussion on Yahoo Answers says that you need a BP, and that the inter-terminal transfer buses can only be accessed from transit security, not from the regular departures area. Can't say how authoritative it is, but there you go.
