12 Hours in NRT - Help!

I have a 12 hour layover in NRT on 20 Oct. and need some advice on what to do to kill the day there. I am willing to leave the airport for a few hours.

Also, if there is anyone who can assist with lounge access, I am flying AA...for the first time on 10 years I do not have high enough status to get into a lounge This could be ugly and I would appreciate any advice and assistance.

Thanks.

From NRT, I would recommend taking a 10-minute train ride to the city of Narita. From the train station, you can walk down a nice road with interesting shops and restaurants to the Narita temple, which has many large, interesting buildings as well as extensive scenic grounds...

12 hrs should actually be enough time for you to get to the city of Tokyo and back as well. The new Keisei Skyliner links NRT to Ueno in 36 minutes.

This is a subset of one of the top questions asked on this forum. Do a search, it's been asked lots of times before.

What you should do in large part depends on which 12 hours you are at NRT, for starters. You imply it's a day, but do you mean your layover is during the daytime? You say you are flying AA on this layover, but I didn't think AA flew beyond Tokyo, so presumably code shares are involved? Do you have any FF status on the airlines concerned, or are you flying business or first (this may affect how early you have to be back at Narita)?

More information helps.

One can always look over Mike Newman's Narita Layover pages for lots of things to do in and around Narita-Shi. <link>

See the following:

While the site isn't being updated as often as it used to be, it still provides some useful info for a NRT layover mostly geared towards going into Narita City.

Many thanks for the advice and the thread links.....they are very good.

I am flying out on AA in Y and I have all day (landing at 6:30am from a QF flight)

I currently have only Gold status on AA, so no good for flounge access.....can anyone out there guest me in, if needed?

My advice would be to purchase a day pass for the Admirals Club for $50. No status or AC membership needed. If you decide to purchase a membership, you can apply the cost of the day pass to your membership. Since all flights from NRT-USA arrive the same day, you could use the pass to visit the AC at your destination airport as well.

Many travelers flying through NRT on AA connect with fellow oneworld alliance members JL, QF or CX flights.
