JL C class baggage allowance -- SOS

I bought a C class ticket from Hanoi to SFO with a stopover in Tokyo, where I am now. I will fly from HND to SFO tomorrow. Upon checking in, it said I have two checked bags. However, JL's general website says there three checked bags are available for their C passengers.

This is a JL operated flight. So, who should I trust?

Thanks!

You should be allowed to check up to 3 bags at max 32kg/70lbs each. May be what is printed on your boarding pass is the actual number of checked luggages no?

Thank you for your quick reply. No boarding pass issued, perhaps it's because it's a US bound flight.

US DOT exception applies in this situation. It depends on the marketing carrier of your HAN-TYO flight.

Thank you. Should I call AA and Jal to reconfirm? I am OW Ruby, which doesn't give a third bag free.

The issue with calling is that phone agents may not know what they are talking about.

Is AA the marketing carrier? If that’s the case you only get 2 pieces

It’s the marketing carrier not issuing agent that matters. What are your flight numbers?

Well, from the AA email, it's a 4-digit AA number. However, the email also told me the JL confirmation number.

Then you are entitled to 2 pieces as offered by AA. I have no experience on whether JL check in staff will let you check in the third one for free as your ticket only comes with 2 pieces.

Just called AA. The agent had no idea.

JL agent told me to contact AA.

Catch-22.

As the marketing carrier it's AA's responsibility to inform you of the baggage limit, so JAL is correct to tell you to call AA.

I am fairly confident it is what JL states as its baggage policy that governs.

No, it matters whatever the baggage allowance is on the ticket. And if AA issued the ticket, like someone said above, they will have put in two pieces at X kg/lbs.
It's the same when booking a JL domestic flight with BA Avios on 125 stock, you end up getting two pieces of luggage at up to 23kg despite JL domestic fares giving you only 20kg and use the weight system. Or... when booking QR awards with AA and AA "forgetting" to put the luggage allowance on it.

JL can choose to apply their own rules but must at least provide what is indicated on the ticket.

Thank you everyone. I stuffed everything into two suitcases and checked them in. Not sure if I was entitled with two or three pieces.
