Somewhat surprised to see JL9/10 HND-ORD just downgauged from a 773 to 789 for summer 2023.

Just to be clear, JAL has not announced the inaugural date of A350-1000. The Japanese and English press releases only state it will be introduced on the HND-JFK route during the winter schedule, which starts on Oct 29 2023.

Given that JL6/5 is the "prestigious" New York flight number, I would assume they will switch 6/5 rotation to 35K first.

It seems to start from March 26, per Expert Flyer and JAL website

So maybe that's where the DFW 77W comes from. Interestingly, the DFW flight is selling the F seats as J, so with ORD losing F it seems there will be no true F on JAL to the central US. (Or is there a second flight to ORD besides 9/10? I can't remember.)

Hmmm. Interesting find - JL741/742 is suspended starting July 1st. One of the legacy flights(together with JL745/746) continuously in operation for the past 55 years.

Could this mean Zipair will be taking over from here onwards?

SQ and KE have 9-across 777s:

My CHI to HND flight was downgraded. I am livid. I've been trying to fly JAL F for the longest time, booked it twice for the Olympics (obviously that didn't work out) and now they do this??? Now all the F.seats are of course sold out on the other routes. I'm livid. I know it's part of the game but this SUCKS so much.

Is JL not willing to work with you to rebook you on another route? (Or they just said everything's sold out and there's nothing they can do?) There must be other ORD passengers in the same situation.

I'm surprised they are not offering F on the DFW flight, even with the 77W operating the route from late March.

Well, I booked through AA, so I'm ....ed. :/ but now I want the 20K or something miles I paid F for. Hopefully they can just refund me the difference without me cancelling, cuz who knows if that inventory will go back up...

So AA is just telling you "no F award inventory on other routes, sorry"? I would think that in a situation like this, the airline should be willing to open up F award inventory on an alternative flight, given that they are the ones who downgauged the flight. Maybe AA needs to call JL? Or is this kind of thing not done for award tickets and people in your situation are just SOL? If so, that does indeed suck and I would be livid too.

Same boat as you here except booked with AS.
What complicates it more is that I have 2 other seats booked in J, so finding another route with 1 F and 2 J is going to be troublesome.

That might be it. JL5/6 after October 29 seems to sell up to 5 F seats only (with a few random exceptions which don't line up). I'll speculate that it's destined to be the A350 with a new 5-seat F cabin.
