They should have waited for one more day to establish the TBL so the prep company and JAL are both founded on Aug 1

i dont think those guys thought that hard

but now u mentioned they get ideas and can flip this into marketing stunt, saying established a day earlier than mother company to symbolize rebirth or something like that

I am only thinking of the cost saving aspect. You only need to celebrate the anniversary once on Aug 1 instead of 2 days in a row

Looks like JAL LCC will get some competition with AirAsia planning to fly to the US West Coast via Japan by 2020. But they are targeting LAX and SFO and possibly use NGO as the hub instead of TYO.

JAL's LCC seems more like AC Rouge to me than AirAsia, flying routes that JAL mainline can't sustain with a slightly lower cost structure but mostly full service. Honestly I'm not sure what AirAsia hopes to gain flying to North America because they'll probably end up charging around what the Chinese carriers charge for a vastly inferior experience.

Not just the space, it's a horrible name to begin with

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_(airline)

Zip was a Canadian discount airline headquartered in Hangar 101 at Calgary International Airport, Calgary, Alberta. It was launched by Air Canada as a no-frills subsidiary in September 2002.

...

Zip ceased operations in September 2004 when Air Canada resumed a full schedule on its western routes.

I don't disagree with the name being a bad choice, no space no hyphen just makes it even worse. Actually Zip by itself would not be too bad.

A few airlines have proven they can setup on LCC subsidiary successfully though most have failed in this venture. I'll hold my verdict until there is a little bit more known about the concept. But the first warning sign would be the slow growth of the fleet, LCCs only works by economy of scales.

Zipair sounds so... 'foreign', I just can't stop comparing the name to Zipcar. Though considering other LCCs are named Peach and Vanilla, I suppose it fits right in.
9 across economy with a consideration of premium seats.. I'm guessing a few rows of Class J for the latter?
