[QUOTE]Japan Airlines Co. is examining setting up a new low-fare carrier to increase capacity and take on rising competition from budget operators in Asia’s second-largest economy.
Starting a discount airline is part of the carrier’s need to widen its product line-up, Vice Chairman Junko Okawa, 63, said in an interview in Singapore on Monday. It is one of several options the company is exploring, she said, adding no decision has been taken yet.

Why setup one more? To get full ownership? I actually don't know the details of the ownership of Jetstar Japan, but imagine that Qantas has a share.

That's a good one.
Just hope it will be like Lufthansa/Eurowings so that JGP and Diamond will still get you some elite benefits.
Then again, they will probably start in trunk routes where JAL is already active, I don't really see them starting with secondary routes, so maybe less of a point in the early stages.

It will be interesting to see the actual concept. And the benefits in relation to JMB. Jetstar has some QFF benefits, but I believe Scoot has zero KF benefits So there are examples in both directions

The plan is to use NRT as the base. I hope they can either move most of the flights to HND and leave NRT as their LCC base or at least keep some connecting flights options for US/European flights and not switching everything to LCC at NRT

The possible flight routes to and from Narita International Airport include those to North America, Europe and other parts of Asia, but these are not expected to overlap with JAL's existing major international flight routes
