JL leniency on separate tickets
Hi all,
Just wondering how lenient JL is with regards to a separate ticket connection, ITM-NRT-KUL.
Both Avios tickets, the first one in Y and the second one in J as part of a multi-partner award.
I'd have exactly 2 hours to connect (09:20-11:20). Does JL check bags through on separate tickets these days? Any experience with the on time performance of that flight?
In case it is severely delayed, how long can such a connection actually take - and would I be protected in any way? BA Emerald if it matters.
Thank you!

Great, thanks.
Any information as to the rest of it - notably if the flight is delayed (or if it's enough time to begin with between flights, having never done such a connection before?)

Remember we're talking about Japan - where a 10 second train delay counts as a delay. In Europe no-one bats an eyelid at a 10 minute delay.
It is very unusual with domestic delays of any significant amount.
The routes usually affected by dealys are mainland China and HK, mostly because of congestion at the Chinese end, meaning either late incoming aircraft, or that they are being held as there is no landing slot.

Yes I've unfortunately experienced PEK delays!
I am more worried at the fact that, should the domestic on a separate ticket get significantly delayed (well, 45mins-1h is enough!), that I would miss my onward connection (JL, J) on a separate 125- ticket, on a once a day route... how JL would deal with that.
Also, is it just me or are certain domestic flights not loaded yet for the end of July/early August?

It is a through check service, they are not obliged to fully protect your connection. However, I am sure that they will do what they can to accommodate you on another flight should you miss it.

I changed my plans so did not run into this issue.
Note that if you are flying JL domestic and connecting onto a separate ticket non-JL but oneworld international flight they will not be able to through-check your bags. At least this was in my case.

With that, you will be looked for (waited for and escorted) by JAL ground staff to ensure you make your connection to JL723 in case of a delay.
However, JAL will not rebook you for free if you actual get delayed long enough that you cannot make it to JL723. Typically, arriving with less than 1 hour to departure is fatal. (You still have immigration, terminal change etc.)
