First time on JL – loved it!
I'm an Australian living in the UK, who returns home at least once a year to visit family and friends. I'm OW Sapphire (QF Gold) so I tend to stick to OW airlines, and typically have used QF/BA and CX on these trips over the past few years.
I'd never flown JL, but having visited Japan numerous times, this year I decided to fly JL and enjoy a short stopover each way.
I've been very much looking forward to my flights, albeit with a slight level of anxiety over the recent poor press regarding JL's financial difficulties.
Having now stepped off my first flight, I am pleased to say that JL lived up to every expectation I had, exceeded some, and I am really looking forward to my other flights.
The crew could not have been more professional, efficient and seemed to genuinely enjoy what they were doing. The food was delicious and was more than satisfactory in terms of quantity. But it's the little touches that I noticed on my flight, which can really make the difference between a perfectly good flight and an exceptional one. Nothing earth shattering, but just everything delivered in a consistent and quality manner.
Whilst my experience of JL to date is a small sample of one flight (LHR-NRT), if it is anything to go by then I can really look forward to my other flights. I sincerely hope that JL remain in OW, as I wouldn't hesitate to fly them again on the Kangaroo Route.
ps. For what it's worth, I was in economy class.

Glad that you enjoy your first JAL flight. It is exactly the consistent service and all those little touches that make me love JAL so much
I hope your remaining flights (esp the Australia ones) are as good as your first one. I haven't flown on the Australia routes before, but those flights are operated with JALways crew and I have read some negative reviews before...Hopefully this won't happen to you
