I would also add the Leonardo museum, which specializes in his inventions, to the list of places to go in Milan.

In general, however, I have to agree that Milan's major attraction is the train which takes you to Verona and Venice.

Why don't you go west?
Torino is a lovely city and still quite off the beaten tourist path.

ciao maclover

So noted. We've added those places to our list.

I'm not sure if you're asking me or the OP... but in my case, this is a busman's holiday and I have no choice in the matter. Although, Torino does sound lovely; hopefully I can go there another time.

Milano

If your tastes span art and technology museums etc as discussed above you can easily spend a couple of days in Milan. Unless you never expect to be in Italy again I would not suggest going as far as Venice, it deserves an overnight or three. Bergamo or Verona are well worth the trip or a night. Near Milan is Pavia, with some sights and nearby a fine abbey the Certosa di Pavia, this has its own train station and is easily reached on a local train. If music is your thing, then a day trip to Cremona, home of the Stadivarius violins might do the trick.

Torino is indeed well worth a visit, but perhaps some other time.
