Bring a jacket to Rome and Venice?

We're about to go off to Italy next week! It's always been my rule to have my husband take a nice Navy Blazer, as we like to blend in with Europeans and not look too much like Tourists. We're trying to travel light this time: a man's jacket is still a good idea, right? He will be taking his cashmere overcoat anyway, to keep warm

Thanks

Your question is about personal taste; who are we to say your (or your husband's) dress habits are bad? If he likes wearing a blazer, or you like looking at him wearing one, so be it!

PS Italians are the best-dressed Europeans. Even in Sicily he won't stick out.

Well put by KLouis. It's not so much about how he appears to others, it's how it makes him feel. If he feels good wearing a blazer, definitely. The overcoat won't be needed in Rome, but it will be useful during the evenings in Venice, where it can still be chilly.

This is a wonderful time of the year to go to both places!

Yes, I think he looks great, elegant even.

My husband always packs a jacket. Actually, he doesn't pack it. He wears it onboard as he likes having pockets. Ongoing conversation from many years of marriage:
HIM: "do you think I should pack a tie.?"
ME: My answer: "does it take up much room?"

Our present PM and most members of his cabinet have solved the problem by never wearing a tie.

One of the reasons I'm questioning is that when we go into some restaurants in Italy(Ie Alle Testiere) half the men are in sweaters/shirtsleeves and vest: they look like locals or at least European. We don't want to seem "overdressed"

From long experience, a man in a blazer will not seem overdressed in any restaurant. Even in a casual place, he can always take it off, drape over a chair, and he's in shirt sleeves.
And in a world of men wearing sports jerseys with someone else's name on it as clothing (isn't it really a costume) that jacket sometimes accrues benefits.
(As an earlier poster mentioned, I always wear a blazer - well, more accurately a sports coat - when I travel. Pockets.)

When we go to Alle Testiere, we go with our married friends who are Venetian. They are also good friends of the owner. Our male friend generally wears a beautiful leather jacket over a sweater (we go in late fall). There are times when he wears a suit and tie. He aways looks elegant.

Fine! And since Obscure2k brought up the question of a tie and this is the Italy forum, if you're close to Naples go to the Chiaia neighbourhood and get your husband a tie from Marinella: the Rolls Royce of Italian ties and the strange thing is, they're at an affordable price.

PS I was just told that they now even have stores in Milan, but I can't tell you where exactly.

PS2 Oooops, not in any sense related to either RR or Marinella.
