MXP to Lyon

MXP to Lyon
I will be arriving MXP on CX233 in Dec.
Flight is scheduled to arrive at 7am.
I am going direct to Lyon from MXP.
I am travelling with my brother
So far I've looked at a few options from flying to driving to taking the train.
Only direct flights I can find are on HOP!, which is will cost ~€500 for 2 people.
With driving the one way drop off fees are outrageous ~€500.
With the train, I believe the only reasonable train time is the 12:23pm train from Milano Centrale, but that would put me in Lyon at almost 7pm at night.
What would you guys recommend?

I just did the trip in reverse, taking the train from Lyon to Geneva and then from Geneva to Milano (Centrale, not MXP). It was a very pleasant trip with lots of great scenery (from your perspective Swiss Alps and then bits of Lake Geneva) and then a train through the French countryside to Lyon. The train in first class cost something like 70 Euros to Geneva -Milan plus another 40 Euros to Geneva-Lyon. After a long flight you might find the train a quite relaxing experience.
