LAX-FCO, was A330-220 and now A350-900

I have travel coming up in June, LAX-FCO. When the flight was booked, the aircraft was listed as an A330-200. However, now when I look at the flight information on Expert Flyer, the aircraft is showing as a A350-900. My original seat selections were based on the A332 business class cabin. Seatguru doesn't show an A359 for Alitalia/ITA. I'm curious if this is a new build for ITA or perhaps it was acquired from another carrier?

Another odd thing is that Expert Flyer is still showing the economy cabin as an A332.

Answering my own question; other articles have also mentioned these same four early-delivery aircraft - which are apparently to be used for other routes in addition to Brazil. Los Angeles was one of the routes mentioned.

I believe the ITA A350's were originally intended for Hainan. I am flying ITA on the A350 to JFK in Aug. From what I can figure out from the seatmap shown on Delta.com, it is similar to Hainan, just with less business seats.
Sciamano likes this.

My FCO-MIA flight in October says A350, but the aircraft types on this route are A330. I picked seats based on the A350, so I am really hoping it's an A350!
