Will the next one be the Amstel?

It would seem likely, they've been advertising it without the InterContinental branding for a while now.

Both the hotel's official website and Instagram give no sign at all of it being an InterContinental:

Called it a few months ago! How absolutely fabulous, what a fitting elevation for a legendary property like this.

Too bad that we will not be able to use the Ambassador weekend 2-4-1s anymore. And no more Ambassador upgrades.

Saved quite a significant amount in our summer holidays the few times we stayed there...

I rather feared that it was no longer going to be an IC when I saw it in October with no branding .
I suspect pricing might rocket towards the palace hotels of Paris so 1500€ +

An interesting development!

khabah : you were right !
Could this mean that IC AMS will switch to being a Regent after their grand refurbishment .......

Or even all classic historic hotels might shift to Regent brand,
like Bordeaux, Paris Le Grand ?

But than again, IC HKG is not a historic classic hotel but rebranded to Regent due to the expected opulence and $-price level

Thank you for the hat tip, my good man!

I reckon the Amstel is one to watch - it could easily go to Regent given its history, if the owners wish to pursue their relationship with IHG and if the renovations will take a more modern rather than traditional approach in keeping with the next generation brand identity of modern luxury.

IHG said that they identified a small handful of ICs that could switch to Regent, but they would be careful of what switches so as to maintain Regent’s exclusivity. Funny enough, Bordeaux was a Regent when it opened but went to IC, and I don’t see it returning. I don’t see Paris Le Grand fitting with the brand unless it underwent some modernization to shed the classic look a bit, and given that it recently came off a renovation I don’t see it happening either. I was surprised when the Willard in DC was recently renewed as an IC - that would have made for a grand Regent debut in North America, but alas. Perhaps IHG is cooking up a delectable debut for the new continent…

HK was a good PR stunt - that property made its name as a Regent and did a lot for the brand as a whole as an emblematic property in a global city, and I think it’s very fitting to return the building to its roots. I believe that when Regent Hong Kong relaunches, and if the relaunch is properly executed [and I don’t doubt anything about it], it’ll be a solid proof of concept for IHG’s direction of the brand and we’ll see a more energetic rollout of new announcements. The plan was, after all, to bring 20 to 40 Regent properties to the market in the medium term post brand acquisition in 2018, so we surely have some exciting times ahead. Elevating the Carlton is an excellent step in that direction.

Even LL has shared my observation that IC AMS + IC PLG could be next in line to switch to Regent

khabah thanks for chiming in with your knowledge, always interesting!
besides a hat tip, a deep bow !

I missed out at staying here but as an alternative discovered IC Bordeaux,

However i wonder if all RA might be able to use their free night to try out a new Regent hotel
(program update 2023/2024 wishlist - i keep writing in questionnaires)
or something like
Inner Circle has a free night at new Kimpron hotels
to keep the ranks happy and to engage with the brand
why not for RA with IC and Regent

* i get Six Senses is a lost cause

May I suggest we lock this thread and continue the conversation in the new, dedicated thread devoted to the hotel's forthcoming incarnation as a Regent?

The hotel is closed and will become a Regent. In so far, I follow the suggestion and close this thread. If by any chance you like to post a question related to the IC Carlton Cannes, please send a PM to one of the moderators of this forum
