The château de Chantilly was built for the House of Montmorency, then was home to the Condésand finally to the Duke of Aumale, fifth son of Louis-Philippe.



Chantilly was also in the 19th century a playground for aristocrats and artists, as well as home to an English community with ties to horse racing.
The first horse races were run in 1834 on the lawn area known as the pelouse, and the 1840s saw an influx of bettors of all social classes, especially from Paris.
The success of the horse races was primarily due to the opening of the train station in 1859.



The Chantilly golf course is a golf course located in the Chantilly forest in the municipality of Vineuil-Saint-Firmin near Chantilly.

Created in 1909 and remodeled in 1920 by the British architect Tom Simpson who designed the Fontainebleau and Morfontaine courses, the golf course will first have 27 holes, before being completed in 1990 by architect Daniel Steel for an area of 119 hectares. From now on, it is composed of two 18 holes, Les Longères and Vineuil.
