InterContinental Khao Yai National Park - Master thread (Thailand)

The award-winning Bill Bensley strikes again. This time, the Bangkok-based architect and interior designer has upcycled abandoned train carriages into a railway-themed five-star resort for the InterContinental Khao Yai National Park.

The 100-acre site blessed with 50,000 trees and views over seven lakes is an inviting escape back to the glamorous age of train travel.

The landmark resort will feature 45 rooms and 16 suites, all of which are housed inside converted train carriages or designed with repurposed salvaged train cars. Located within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the design concept of the property is inspired by a fictional tale of a local train conductor, and beautifully adds to Bill Bensley’s idiosyncratic, sustainable, individualistic collection.

Opening date: Late 2021

I found articles that indicated a 2020 opening was planned.
Therefore a late 2021 opening seems possible

And it's quite a beautiful area in the hills (and a mountain) east of Bangkok where the wealthy go to escape the heat of the city life. Relaxing, green and worth the trip, though if you drive through the park, over the mountain like we did when we drove up from a stay in Rayong, the "toll" is substantial (I recall we paid almost THB500,) and it's a long, slow drive, but there are many turnoffs for some interesting scenic areas. When we went, most places were closed so we ate at the hotel, I recall it was the U Hotel which is a chain of decent properties, which I booked through Hotels.com, plus we drove over to an area with farm fresh fruits and vege's plus some cook stands. About a 2 hour drive from Bangkok.

Hotel is now open and is bookable. I'm very interested in reports. How are folks getting there from Bangkok? It seems remarkably affordable with points, just 24K/night.

This is the hotel IG account: https://www.instagram.com/intercontinental_khaoyai/

Thank yo for sharing your experience. Quite an interesting (funky) resort so to say which certainly has a novelty factor. While we have done all the noteworthy IC hotels and resorts in Thailand a few times over (okay, Phuket IC only once), this one may warrant a stop one of these days in the future.

May I ask, aside from chilling at the resort, is there anything else to do around the area? Some National Park tours or so being offered? How was the bug situation (it's in the middle of nature so I don't expect a bug free zone of course)?
