HIX Boone, North Carolina

Stay Report - 5/30 - 5/31

Location: The hotel is located on Blowing Rock Road (US 321) two miles east of Downtown Boone and Appalachian State University. Nearby are a number of stores including a Food Lion grocery store and restaurants that can be walked to from the hotel.

Hotel: Physically this is a nicer HIX than I'm used to. It's 5 stories tall, has stonework and balconies and looks more inviting than the typical cookie cutter out by the highway design. There's a large parking lot, an outdoor pool (currently closed due to the weather) and a large lobby with sitting area.

Check In: Handled by a nice agent who thanked me for being Platinum and told me I'd been upgraded to a suite on the 5th floor. He also asked me if I wanted a room with two beds that I'd booked or I'd prefer a king. That's really rare for me but very appreciated.

Room: This is not what I expected when I heard "suite". There was a large bed and next to it a table with two chairs and that was it. Still, the bed was comfortable and there was a work area. The bathroom was huge with a whirlpool tub that had the hottest water imaginable. Overall it was pretty good.

Breakfast: The usual pancake machine, cinnamon rolls etc. as well as cheese omelets and sausage and fruit and cereal.

My rate was $85 and this was a perfectly fine HIX. I'd be back if I was in the area.
