Update 2023:
- it seems no new RA have been invited by IHG
- criteria for RA requalification are still unknown
- geographical location of member / country account registration seems of some impact due of covid19(restrictions/availability)
- RA is processed in weekly batches starting december 2022
- proof by nicolas75 shows RA qualification for 2024 seems to be strictly based on IC hotels only (not Regent, Kimpton, SixSenses anymore)

As per Tim O'Brien's post about IHG-corporate explaining RA criteria:

As you are aware,
Royal Ambassador is our invitation only tier with the number of members invited each year
limited to ensure our hotels are able to consistently deliver on the benefits promise,
elevating your stay experience at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.

Although we do not currently have a published criteria for Royal Ambassador,
consideration is determined by variable activities within a members account such as
- qualified paid room nights & spend across our luxury brands (, 2023 EDIT: Post-Pandemic from 2024 InterContinental only : Pre-Pandemic also Kimpton & Regent ) ,
- member region,
- primary hotels,
- category (of the hotel class / €$¥£ price levels compared to currency rates / competition / city / region / country / continent )
- tenure (repeat custom / average spend at hotel)
Accompanying or adjoining reservations,
such as the additional rooms of your family etc are not included for Royal Ambassador consideration
but are included in determining Spire Elite status within IHG Rewards Club
.

* FT:IHG forum community group consensus / empirical evidence shows
- that members must have stayed at different unique hotels per city / country / region / continent
the amount of uniques needed for RA qualification is unknown but generally extended long stays at just 1 hotel do not qualify
- IHG-corporate showing keen interest in how much guests are spending €$¥£ at hotel's own operated F&B / Spa / transport / extra services / other venues
atacama40 has given us insights that extra spend at the hotel charged to the hotelfolio generates EQP but also flags the database as high valued spending guest
- one must have AMB to get considered for RA invitation by IHG as they seem to evaluate over a longer period the length of one's tenure / devotion / spend / undisclosed criteria at stayed IC-hotels

Update 2020 / 2021:
RA status was extended due to the global pandemic of covid19

================================================== =======

Update 2019: The RA status granted at the start of the calendar year 2017 and 2018 has been based on IC revenue. As from 2019 criteria again have become vague. RA is not achieved through IC spend only. Other, unknown elements are taken into account as well. (Fact: Some users with very high +25k IC spend were not renewed in 2019.)

Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

[Archived - no longer valid] New (Royal) Ambassador Criteria

A document was unintentionally available in the internet about changes to the (Royal) Ambassador Qualifying and Re-Qualifying criteria.
The document is available on

http://viewfromthewing.img.boardinga...Ambassador.pdf

Older discussion
There was an ongoing discussion about the criteria for some time. This thread is now closed.

update from Executive Liaison Sept, 2023,
spend at other IHG luxury brands does count for RA, and Renewal.
Brands weren't stated, but reasonable to assume Six Senses, Regent, and Kimpton.

That is not a given. Many elites have high status in multiple chains.

If one is given Lifetime, then many may use opportunity to stay less nights than needed to obtain said lifetime conferred status each year whilst still enjoying same benefits ....
allowing guest a new option to then chase a second/third status each year when yearly nights would not be enough without one lifetime status or even chase a different chains lifetime status.

If I had lifetime Spire/RA then the extra non-IC nights needed to bulk out my IC nights to 75/nn/3 would be able to be put to booking another chain when other chains hotel is preferrable to a poor IHG hotel, and that doesn't even account for also switching from good IHg hotels to competitor for yearly/lifetime status benefits

Indeed since hitting LT Plat with Starwood in the middle of this year I have had zero stays. Since hitting Lifetime Gold with BA I have accrued only 60TP in a year. Lifetime gives licence to spend less moving forward not more, it's only real appeal to current management is to push more stays from those trying to qualify for Lifetime, why reward past behaviour, you can't change the past and past behaviour doesn't make you future money.

Not yet qualified to be RA

Hi all,

Just a quick question, I now reached 79/76/3 since last Monday.

Please could you advise based on your experience , how long does it take them to realise that maybe I am qualified ?

Thanks in advance !

Thanks in advance !

1. You needed to be enrolled as Ambassador Member before the first stay of your 79nights. supposedly only nights stayed whilst enrolled as an Ambassador count towards becoming an RA
2. Also only PAID qualifying rate nights count (award nights or heavily discounted or OTA nights don't count)
3. Are all 79nights in a rolling 365 period (spanning 365 nights over two ambassador over years is allowed, een par month - part month)
4. were any IC/IHG nights manually corrected from nonqual -> qual nights. for some reason the "RA nights counter" ignores manually adjusted nights
5. RA Nights Counter only counts nights stayed after they are posted to your IHG @Rewards account. As such it is important those last 75-79 nights posted before your 1st-4th nights dropped off for being over 365days old
6. if manually adjusted nights drop count < 75 then contact Amb Helpdesk, ask to be put through to supervisor and then ask supervisor for a "manual count".
7. Remember lengthy negotiated stays where you sign a contract with an hotel for longe stay at discounted rates, by default contract states nights are non qualifying.

THEN
Assuming Paid+qual nights target 79/30/3 is met, then historically RA status shows up on your IHG account 2-3 working days (m-f) after the 75th night posts.

Hi scubaccr, i've heard that position previously, and whilst it may be true for some (you, and Land of Miles clearly) i'm a believer that Lifetime confers the highest status, that is more than a regular RA, Platinum, Diamond, hence i personally wld direct business to the programs i have lifetime status with, and frankly given Marriott/Ritz/SPG are offering, and Hyatt is offering, IHG are currently operating at a competitive disadvantage, by not offering it.

Evidence from other forums is that lifetime members don't get "extra" treatment. You might be lifetime xx but that just means you don't need to requalify. It's not a higher level.

I have lifetime in several programs and you are right regarding the T's and C's of the program. But sometimes certain individual employees can be impressed and take special care when they see you are a lifetime member.

RA Qualification

Hi Guys,

My Platinum Ambassador membership expires Mar 2017.
when they are determining how many stays/nights/spend per year, are they counting these numbers in the calendar year or your ambassador year.

Since Mar 2016 i have accumulated 20 Nights at 7 different IC's at a spend of around $6000 USD.

i will definitely spend another 10 nights at IC's before Mar 2017.

What are your thoughts on my chances of becoming RA??

Thanks

well thats the 30x IC nights and 3x duifferent IC hotels requirement ticked, assuming all 30 IC nights wee paid qualifying rate stays.
As well as 30 IC nights you need total of 75 paid qual nights which can include non-IC IHG hotel brands.

o currently on paid qual nights stayed (not spend)
o only paid qual nights count towards RA status (unlike eg award nights count towards Spire)
o currently believed 75nights needed, 30 nights of which at IC hotels and a minimum of three different IC hotels
o it is only posted to account stays that are counted
o the 75/30/3 can be in any rolling 365day period

Meet 75/30/3 goal and RA update should occur about3 working days after 75th night posts.

As if on cue, I'm at the W Barcelona now and in the past the staff has given me great upgrades when I show them my heavy metal Starwood lifetime platinum card. And this time at check in it worked again and I got a better than expected upgrade at a nearly sold out hotel. When I walked up they said they had no upgrade for me except to a higher floor. But after they saw the card, they got on the phone and found a large suite. You cannot count on that happening every time or most of the time, but it does happen.

Please Ambassador managers, start a lifetime RA program! You will get lots more business from me, that's for sure.

Hey thanks for your response,
Just called Ambassador Line. They said I am not yet qualified.

I was just happened to be in Melbourne and Paris often in the past 6 months with two nights st the O2.

They are all qualified nights and they are not heavily discounted rates. It was not the lengthy stays either ( 5 nights max per trip).

So I believe I should have been qualified, unfortunately not.

I am super annoyed at them right now. I feel like I have made a real wrong choice and should have gone for Grand Hyatt....

I shall post any updates, if they somehow change their mind ( which I don't think they will).

Thanks anyway!

Hi guys,

I got my RA status a couple of month ago, and seems well worth the (admittedly limited) effort!

This year my schedule means that I will be staying at IC's in China and the US, admittedly at several different locations. I have this vague recollection that you had to have IC stays in three different countries or regions - am I just mistaken?

I've done a search and found nothing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

At present, the published criteria is 'By invitation only' based on qualifying nights.

Current anecdotal evidence indicates that the re-qualification criteria is:

Minimum IHG paid qualifying nights - 75
Minimum IC paid qualifying nights - 30
Minimum number of different ICs - 3 (not required to be in different countries)

Really sorry to hear that bad news, try Amb line again and ask for a Supervisor

Many initial Amb Line helpline operators are not that great when it comes to RA eligibility.
If you are are not showing RA, thyen the operator stupidly reads scripted replies and parrotts something like "you need more stays / you have not qualified at this mmoent" etc etc

You need ring up the Amb Line, and then say you need to speak to a supervisor and then you ask the supervisor for a manual nights count.
(Did you have some nights manually adjusted to qual-stay after failing to post correctly ? Such manually adjusted nights are ignored by RA auto-counter... ONLY a Supervisor manual count overcomes that issue)

The Manual count is always for the 365nights to the day you contact the supervisor. At least then you know if IHGs count agrees with your own !

Once Supervisor confirms your count as 79/30/3 then ask why you have not yet made Royal Ambassador status as you know the previously published 60/20/3 was increased from March2016 ... BUT you know IHGers who are being made RA at 75/30/3 which you have already exceeded

Let us know how you get on
