Update 2023:
- it seems no new RA have been invited by IHG
- criteria for RA requalification are still unknown
- geographical location of member / country account registration seems of some impact due of covid19(restrictions/availability)
- RA is processed in weekly batches starting december 2022
- proof by nicolas75 shows RA qualification for 2024 seems to be strictly based on IC hotels only (not Regent, Kimpton, SixSenses anymore)

Update 2019: The RA status granted at the start of the calendar year 2017 and 2018 has been based on IC revenue. As from 2019 criteria again have become vague. RA is not achieved through IC spend only. Other, unknown elements are taken into account as well. (Fact: Some users with very high +25k IC spend were not renewed in 2019.)
Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

mv sep2015-aug2016 RA year was extended and de facto became sep2015-nov2016, changing my FUTURE Ambassador cycle to be DEC-NOV
As such (like you) i was not renewed in Aug2016 out to AUG2017 despite having enough stays for my original non-extended year sep2015-aug2016
IHG will instead review extension of RA satus using new ambassador year cycle DEC2015-NOV2016
Hopefully you are not as incovenienced by the Ambassador year change and will still renew come Dec2016 for a further 12months.

I've had the same thing. RA was due to expire today - Oct 1st - and as of this morning the membership card on the app is showing a new expiry of Dec 31st. No communication from IHG whatsoever on any of this though.
It says to me they haven't finalised the new criteria yet.

Just had the same thing here, despite being circa 79/70/8 as at end August and will hit 77/74/7 in the calendar year to date when I check out from Festival City shortly.

Your RA should have expired 30th Sep 2016, BUT you have the 3month extension gifted to 1stSEP2015 + 1stOCT2015 renewals in recognition of RA packs delayed not being sent out for ages... mine arrived min-Feb2016
(If you look back in your account history you'll probably see the line RA RENEWAL around Feb2016 , my account had that line on 26-FEB , and I put that down to IHG IT and hitting SPIRE early in 2016 as i rolled over 90nights)
No comms from IHG about that unrequested 3month RA extension, unless you count belatedly receiving your RA pack and look at expiry date on card, mine shows 1st Dec 2016 (not 1st Sep 2016) and yours will show !st Jan 2017 (not 1st Oct 2016)

No, nothing to do with new criteria of higher than originally published 60/20/3 or USD nnnnK migration (assumng was not an interns exercise)

really looks like ihg mamanagement gave you (like me and some others) , without telling you directly , a 3months extension of currently expiring RA year , in consideration for late emailing of RA packs.

She said: "But your Royal Ambassador achievement [she insisted that it is not renewal but achievement] is linked to your Ambassador membership which ends end of December 2016".
The reason why I was simply not understanding why I was renewed just 3 months, when actually it was not a renewal. What a confusion.
Does it mean that I will not get any new card until December 2016?

We would like to take this opportunity to clarify that Royal Ambassador status cannot be renewed, as this is given by invitation only.
Ambassador members who achieve the top one percent tier of InterContinental Ambassador guests are invited to enjoy the Royal Ambassador benefits. While Royal Ambassador members who are able to maintain their status are provided complimentary Royal Ambassador status for another rolling calendar year.
Further, in the event that you were unable to maintain your Royal Ambassador status, we will be offering you a complimentary Platinum Ambassador status valid for one rolling calendar year, in order that you continue to enjoy the Ambassador benefits and be given a chance to hopefully qualify to the top one percent of all InterContinental Ambassador members.

if your year end is Nov 1st, i'd re count your numbers, if it's still 74 Paid IC nights,
i wld pay for another IC night, to get you to 75, if you know you are definitely at 74 paid nights.
did you use the opportunity to ask the supervisor, when they were doing the manual count, if you had 74 paid IC nights, how many more wld be required to be renewed?

Whilst the unwanted change in year doesn't really impact me adversely this year I shall be taking it up and seeking confirmation that I will be properly renewed or I will set about cancelling all my forward bookings.

This is strange. My RA expiry was 30 November. Now my member card also says 31st December. It looks like they're resetting the system to a more straightforward JAN - DEC which makes much more sense. I would guess that we'll get RA for 2017, when the new qualifying criteria, whatever that is, will kick in.
