Looks like it is currently operating as Park Atlantic Lisboa.
Same Address, same phone number.

Correct. But most will recognise the hotel from the twenty-odd years it spent as the Meridien, just one block up from Lisbon's first Intercontinental (now the Four Seasons Ritz).

That's the same owner as the recently converted Crowne Plaza in Porto right? Very good news, a new HIX (which actually looks really nice) and an IC in Lisbon

The Porto CP comes into the IC-group by the same route as the Lisbon IC, from Starwood (Meridien) via Tiara hotels. As Porto already has a much nicer and very central IC, badging the new hotel an Intercontinental was never really on the cards: although that's what happened to its sister hotel in Lisbon.

The Porto CP is good for the airport and motorway system, but not so convenient for general tourism and the historical centre. It's nowhere near a metro station.

Nice! Lisbon is a wonderful city and I really want to go back there. Last 2x I was there I stayed at the HI which was nice (plat upgrade to a exec room with a welcome drink. The room was large, clean, fast wifi, but far from the center).

I'm here now and agree with Nicolas that this is a great new addition to the Euro IC family. Probably the lowest cost IC in Europe too, as the hotel market here does not seem to be doing very well.

It's the soft opening now, so things will likely change soon. And they will do a full renovation starting in 2015 and hopefully ending six months later. As for Club access, they said that RA's will not get club when booking the cheapest rate, but they made an exception for my first stay. They said I'd have to book a level below Club and get upgraded to a Club room to get Club access. Again, it's early days here and I expect a lot of change. But the Club is very nice with excellent service. They serve Heidsieck & Co Monopole Champagne and some pretty good Portuguese red wine along with the usual spirits and beer, etc. The alcohol ends around 7 or 7:30 but the club stays open til midnight which is nice. And it opens for breakfast at 6:30am. Eggs cooked to order. ^ This club reminds me a bit of club at the former IC Westminster, which is a good thing.

The staff is the same as it was before it changed brands and some of the staff has gone to IHG HQ in London for training. But they said that the mini-bar was free to RA's only for soft drinks! But after seeing the shock in my eyes they quickly said that if I wanted a beer or something it was ok. We'll see how check out goes.

OT:
My customer had booked me into a non-chain hotel, which was btw much better than any HI at least, and cost me ony 31€ buffet breakfast included. I was really shocked how bad it is in Portugal with hotel business. There were not many customers either.

Quick correction. Ritz has always been Ritz, dating from 1959.

There used to be an IC in Lisbon, but has been downgraded to HI a few years ago, due to lack of improvement.

Le Meridien was actually a landmark in Lisbon and it was quite strange to see it go (and become something named Tiara).

I just passed through the IC Lisbon today as I was walking by and realized the change. Outstanding news for the city.

Sorry - your correction might have been quick, but it is nonsense.

Intercontinental managed the Ritz between 1979 and 1995.

Lisbon has two Holiday Inn hotels, one on the edge of Avenidas Novas, behind the Tecnico, the other off 5 de Outubro. Neither has ever been an Intercontinental.
