I really should know the answer to this...

I should know the answer to this to this simple question. But, thats what happens when you retire from the business & no longer fly like you did before.

We are going to Europe. If I book a rt flight on British Air, but operated by American Airlines. Who's freq flyer miles do I earn. I want to get American miles.

Thanks
Bill

Whichever frequent flyer number you put in the reservation. If you want AA miles, use your Advantage number.

Yes, but check the rules carefully. What you earn can depend on where you credit the miles and also ticketing details such as whether you buy a codeshare flight number or whether you purchase certain deep discount fares (for instance, basic economy, "lite" or HBO = hand baggage only might not earn anything in some programs).

ADDED: OP seems to be considering a BA codeshare ticket for an AA flight. General wisdom is to avoid codeshares unless they're much cheaper and also to purchase the ticket from the carrier operating the flight if possible. Don't use an online travel agent.

If the fares are identical, note that AA flights ticketed with BA flight numbers will earn AAdvantage miles based on distance, fare basis, cabin flown, and AAdvantage elite status, if any, of the passenger. AA flights ticketed with AA flight numbers will earn AAdvantage miles based on the pre-tax fare and AAdvantage elite status, if any, of the passenger.
