Long Layover at LAX

I am looking to fly to Vegas from DC area in March. I will be taking golf clubs out there. I found a flight leaving DCA at around 7am getting to LAX at 10:30AM and then connecting flight to LAS at 5PM.

I have 2 questions:

1) will be golf clubs be okay with staying around for roughly 6 hours during that connection?
2) Am I allowed to leave LAX and meet up with a friend for a few hours and then go back? I think that answer is yes, but never done it so want to make sure

1. Do you mean will my golf clubs be held and loaded onto my flight to LAS then the answer is yes. Otherwise Im not sure what you are asking. Are you on one ticket?

2. Yes, you can do what you like during this time.

I probably should have described it better. Is there more of a chance my clubs get left off the LAS flight being such a long layover? I was concerned with having a short layover and them not making my flight should there be a delay. There is one that has a 2 hour layover and I would stay in the airport.

Assuming you are on 1 ticket, then you are good to go. But please beware of the traffic condition around the LAX area.

Currently have the shorter layover (roughly 2.5 hours) at LAX on hold with AA. In that case ill stay at the airport. If i can meet my friend for a few hours, then Ill pick the 8 hr layover.

Even if my clubs some how dont make it, should have no problem getting it to me since there are numerous flights lax to vegas right? what would compensation be, if any?

Yes. But, there is no particular reason for your bags to miss the connection based on the 2.5 vs. 8 hour time.

If for some reason the clubs don't make it, they will be delivered to your hotel in LAS and, if it comes to it, AA will reimburse the cost of renting clubs if they don't make it in time for your first outing.

US domestic connections on the same ticket cannot be more than 4 hours.
