I am looking at booking a stay at the Hotel Xcaret Mexico with my family. We stayed there a year ago but it looks like the rates have doubled since then. I am now showing a 7 night stay in Jan around $3600.

I am seeing that if I search for hotel + airfare package the total comes out to only small amount more that the price of the hotel alone. It irritating that that they are pricing so radically different when bundling because now if I use points separately I am paying significantly more. For the package I am showing around $3700.

I was planning booking the flights with miles (WN or BA on AA metal) and using chase points though the travel portal for the hotel. There doesn't appear to be anyway to do travel packages through the Chase travel portal. What do you think I should do or any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

You can always purchase the package and "erase" it using points at 1cpp. The savings seems significant to outweigh the cpp difference from using the CTP.

Thanks for the input. I hate to redeem for 1cpp cash back but unfortunately it be the best option in this case. If I do this I might use my Schwab Amex Plat for a slightly better 1.25cpp cash back.
