Which baggage rules apply?
I have booked flights to Spain from the US and it is via 3 airlines (I believe it is oneworld) the first flight is msp to chicago on AA flight # then to madrid Finair flight # on Iberia then the final leg on a Iberia Flight #
On the way back it is Finair # on Iberia, Finair # on AA and finally an AA #
So my question is how the hell do you know who's baggage rules you follow? Do you have to figure out and if necessary pay baggage fees on all 3, do you just take the trans atlantic flights rules or the first flight rules?
I am totally confused
Heeeeelp

Normally the baggage rules will be written in the e-ticket.
How did you buy the ticket? From AA or an online travel agent?

I think you are confused about whether you have one ticket or multiple tickets?
What folks are asking is whether you bought this has one ticket from the online TravelAgent or bought two or more separate tickets. For example is this two one-way tickets or a round-trip ticket? Or is one leg of the journey one ticket and the next segment is a different ticket? That will be a big help in determining what the baggage rules are.You may have two PNR numbers as each airline generally has its own for the same flight/ticket. That does not mean you have separate tickets.

Also, OP is not flying with three airlines ... but two.
Outbound is: AA > IB (codeshare with AY) > IB
Return: IB (again a codeshare) > AA (another codeshare) > AA

I have bought a return from an online travel agent, I leave on March 10th and return on March 29th.
I entered where I wanted to go and it came back with a price and I booked it.
If that helps.
For someone (like me) that doesn't travel much it is totally confusing

AFAIK: On through-checked baggage, US Department of Transportation regulations require the marketing carrier of the initial segment baggage rules apply to USA originating (or ending, iirc) flights. E.g. flying AA as your first flight, AA rules should apply. These take precedent of IATA rules if travel begins (or ends) in the USA.
For IATA governed international itineraries, baggage rules of the Most Significant / Prevailing Carrier apply (in your case, that would be Iberia, as the MSC transatlantic carrier, if they weren’t superseded by the USDOT regulations).
